Just so ive got this understood Im not saying sign Carlton Cole

There has to be some trait that Cole has that Roy likes and thinks the team needs.

I think it's his strength upfront to hold the ball up. I think he feels Torres is a goal scoring machine. We have players like Gerard,Kuyt,Maxi etc that can score goals from midfield and having someone up there that is strong and can hold the ball up will inhance our play. Ngog is not big enough to do that yet. He does try. So i don't think Roy will see Cole as someone that will score 30 goals a season. It's more someone that can get more players involved.

Strengths: Strong in possession, he holds the ball up well and provides an attacking threat in the air, as well as with his pace. His work-rate is colossal and he is also capable of the spectacular.

in other words we are lacking the ol' heskey factor.

I think he would be handy as a squad player but we need top quality not medium quality.

I think Roy would be using him as that a squad type player. Probably playing 18 games a season in the league? We've got a foward in Torres that can score 30 goals a season. we need more goals from Midfield. We are missing a few players in that attacking third. Someone that can Hold the ball up. And players like Malouda, Lennon,Bale,Nani, Nasri, Van der Vaart etc. That will score 10 or 12 goals a season.

I think Roys ideal formation is a 4-4-2. That suited the squad. When we have played that formation.With Mierelas and Lucas in the centre mid. Two ball playing midfielders. Maxi Progressed in that formation aswell.

Problem was Gerard came back! Which pushed Meirelas out wide. Which wrecked all the shape that was getting created.

When i read the first post that Oz posted I was thinking the same thing. I don't think we need another Heskey tho, we need more creative players that can feed torres and our other strikers.

Those players in Roys system are outwide. Creative players with pace that will take on players and get the ball in the danger area. He likes wingers. he signed Duff and tried to sign SWP.

Outwide his been looking at players like Hazard,Elia etc. So to me it seems his looking for pace and creativity outwide and a solid foward that can hold the ball up. Cole,Gomez,Adebayor,Llorente etc.

Not this rubbish again. We don't need another striker!

Could we not get a quality right wing / midfield and use Kuyt in his natural (at least before he joined us) position? I know not many rate Kuyt but he has never really been used as a striker.

Wasn't Kuyt played as a striker when Torres was injured during the season we finished second? Kuyt scored 12 that season, only 2 fewer than Nando.

We DO need someone strong who can hold up a ball, because n'gog never will. That guy is a championship player at best. But Carlton Cole? No thanks.
