It took Bill Shankly almost five years to win his first title as Liverpool manager. Would the Scot have been afforded the same time today? No chance.
Utter balls.
When Shankly was appointed we were 10th in Division Two. We finished that season third. Obviously he wasn't fired for that, nor would he be fired for that today. Next season was third, same. Season after we won Division Two, which again you wouldn't get fired for then or today. Season after we finished eighth in Division One - not going to get fired for that coming off the back of winning Division Two and promotion - and the season after is the fifth one where we won the title.
It is total drivel to suggest that Shankly would have been fired before winning the title if all that took place today.
And the reason for that is that Shankly was a great manager under whom we showed continual improvement. Can the same be said for Hodgson? No.
People don't want Hodgson out because "we're not winning the title", or even because "we're not in the top four right now". They want Hodgson out because the team is going backwards, because the tactics are laughable, because he sticks his foot in his mouth every time he opens it. None of those could be said to apply to Shankly!
