I created a thread the other day about respecting all our managers. I request all of us to show some civility and class as Liverpool fans. Yes, a bit of banter every now and then is great, but some of the posts against both Rafa and Roy seem to go beyond that.

Football's about opinion, so we're all gonna have differing views and different favourites. But whether we prefer Roy or Rafa or someone else, none of us really know these guys personally. So I see no justification for such hatred to either of them.

If you still disagree, can you at least concede that there are a large number of your LFC fans who like Rafa, and therefore at least repect your fellow fans.

Respect is something which needs to be earned this monster has'nt with the way he carried on, what he has done with Iner Milan he done with Liverpool and Valencia before us, he is premeditated and does everything for a reason. The man caused trouble with our owners, Parry, Purslow, Pako, O,Neill, Fat Sam, Ferguson and Steve Bruce, caused trouble with Moyes and caused unrest in the City when he called Everton a little Club he also got shut of Club stalwarts like Stevie Heighway and Hugh McCaulay, he is just a dark menacing person who clashes with anyone in authority and is stubborn and pigheaded who blames everyone but himself. Please dont tell me I am out of line for venting my loathing for this feller as if it was up to me I would confiscate his passport so he could'nt darken our shores again, he has a cheek to even own a home near Liverpool after the damage he done towards the end. Good Riddance to bad rubbish is what I say and for what it's worth more people dislike this feller like me than like him like a few of the sheep on here.

Yet you respect a man that slags the club, the fans, the City off. Blames everyone but himself. Tells media lies on a daily basis. Slags his own players off more often than not. Has a go at the squad which is 'too big', 'too small', 'not his' and then complains about the quality - even though the two worst players in that squad have been signed by him. Has a go at Rafa then backs down when Rafa puts him in his place. Tries to crawl his way around the fans by lying about Rafa's relationship with Kenny - which his son quietly refuted. Pals up with all his Southern press chums. Then complains that he is hard done by. Bigs himself up at every opportunity. spouts [oops] about how wonderful he is. But it's all the previous managers fault, it's the players fault, it's the clubs fault, it's the fault of not enough money, it's always someone else that is to blame. Bigs up Jose Mourinho to Liverpool fans. Bigs up Alex Ferguson to Liverpool fans. Worries that taking the Liverpool job will upset [oops] taggart. Doesn't get the Club. . Doesn't get the Fans. .yet you choose to back this imposter

When you say he hasn't earnt respect 'with the way he carried on', well we don't really know the truth. As I said earlier, we don't know the man personally and neither do we know the truth of all the incidents you mentioned. All we know is from press speculation and/or spin.

e.g. he never called Everton a 'little' club or even a 'small' club. He used the phrase 'smaller teams'. Given the context in which he used that phrase he was right. Just like we would be the smaller team if we played Barcelona tomorrow. (he could perhaps have worded it better but he was talking in a foreign tongue)

The whole think was blown out of proportion by the press and by Everton to suit their own ends.

How you can suggest he was in the wrong (in substance if not method and style) against Sam Allardyce and Alex Ferguson is beyond me.

You say he is 'pre-mediated and does everything for a reason'. What's wrong with a man with a plan and attention to detail. Someone who doesn't want to leave things to chance. He may get it wrong, but at least he does what he believes to be right.

We're obviously going to disagree, so I'll re-iterate the point that neither of us know the real truth. We're just too far away from it all. So given that any assessment of his personality is just an opinion based on our interpretation of (probably biased) media speculation, I can't see the justification for the hate.

Ok, don't respect him if you don't want to - but don't be so harsh on him either is my request. He hasn't committed any crimes. Sure, he made mistakes - but who hasn't?

Well said, MightyLFC, and props to Legend's earlier post as well. I'm not one to say Rafa should return, but these people going so far as to judge him "evil" are only regurgitating baseless press opinion. He's not the anti-christ; he just a football manager who brought us success, restored some of our pride, but ultimately made some mistakes. When one considers their "arguments" for the current manager, a man who has several times been sacked in disgrace for not having a clue about football rather than due to conflicts with the owners, one can clearly see the press guidance in their thoughts. Roy is English. Therefore he must be good; certainly better than any foreigner. They still can't accept that there's no Empire any more.

"Difficult to work with" does not equate with "bad manager". If you're not going to judge a manager by his managerial record, then you are not fit to judge him by any standard, so shut the hell up you press zombies!

Benitez wanted control of the whole pie, something previous Liverpool managers always had I will remind you. Recall Shanks saying that the manager decided everything and the owners were only there to sign the cheques. But Rafa is slated as a "tyrant" for wanting the same by people who believe hiring Commolli (another godd*mn foreigner, along with all those useless f*reign players we have!) will stop Roy having complete control of the whole pie. Extreme double standards by people who are too shocked to admit that their champion, HRH Hodgson, is not fit to wear the LFC shirt!

None of their arguments ever consider the true evil was H&G, and that our fall from grace (and Rafa's) started the moment they stepped through the door, and hasn't ended due to the toothless, gutless, spineless, blind, aging hound they hired as manager. How much did we win from when Rafa started until H&G arrived? Everything but the EPL. How much since? NOTHING. If you're going to say it was Houllier's squad, then how much did Houllier win with that squad in his final 2 seasons? NOTHING. Doesn't take a genius to work it out.

The city has a special place in his heart and vice versa. He served us well in parts but he should not be re-employed.

Now it is time to look forward. The Rafa era is gone and it is about time the Rafa supporters accept it.

What it seems to show (reading the posts in this topic) is how few men are capable/available to take on the job and how few managers most of us appear to feel capable of sorting this growing mess out?

One further point in regard Raffa's achievements in the Champions League.

To get to the final of the world's elite club competition can be claimed by a handful of managers in a lifetime, let alone win it.

To do it two years running or even at two ends of a managerial career is virtually unheard of. Please the comments that we were lucky are not just ridiculous but pathetic.

It's not one game to reach a final twice but many against all comers, and to do it back to back requires skills only Raffa, Mourhino and about 3 others of one hand have on the planet.

To suggest otherwise makes you look an ignorant fool in the ins and outs of the beautiful game.

I may not think it right for Raffa to return at present, and feel he could do with a break from the game actually, but I still respect him for what he achieved at and for this club.

Agreed. It's also about time the Roy supporters starting to look at their man's performances and stop blaming everything on someone who left a good long time ago.
