I have my doubts over Mascherano's loyalty to Liverpool. and although he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world (or even THE best), I believe we need to find a replacement. He is good at marking players, breaking up the play and making great tackles. but can't we really replace that?

I can argue that Sissoko is a better tackler and was better in breaking up the play. his major problem was that he was losing possession too easily.

Spearing is still young and could develop to be as good as Mascherano. he's as big as Mascherano (well both are tiny). he used to be a Centreback, so he knows how to defend. he is known for his good passing range. He just needs to learn a lot from Mascherano and Gerrard (who used to play as a defensive midfielder).

Even though I'm from Kuwait, but I want all LFC squad to care about the club and the city of Liverpool. Gerrard is our best player because he plays with so much passion for the club. I want more and more players to act this way.

Mascherano showed that he could leave sooner than we thought. he has 2 years on his contract, and if we don't renew his contract soon (and make sure that he will be loyal to LFC) then we need to find a suitable replacement and cash in while we can.

we have Mash for this season by the looks of things so I'm not worried yet. Spearing could be a good replacement for sure. So maybe we'll be seeing more of him this season as I dare say Rafa will want him to gain more experience and will be thinking whether next summer Mash will want to leave us plus (he'll have only 1 yr left on his contract so it is the best time to cash in).

true, he's too young to be even compared with one of best defensive midfielders in the world at the peak of his career. but we need to think of someone who can replace him. Mascherano is no where near a 50m midfielder when he's not in his best form. but when he is, he is worth every penny of it. So unless he is interested in playing for Liverpool, we are just keeping a valuable asset without getting the best out of it.

no way emp... put the link up, until then I won't believe it.

As for Masch - I think he's angling for a better deal. His mate Tevez has just raked it in at City, and he got stung by the government introducing the 50% tax thing shorlty after signing his last deal, so effectively he's on less than his old contract....

Either way - out of the two, I wanted Masch to stay but that was because it was obvious Xabi wanted out. Speaking objectively though, there are more options out there that do Mascherano's job and would be a direct replacement than there are for directly replacing Alonso.

Emp, I`d be very surprised if Masch goes so soon after Xabi and so close to the start of the season. Two major players going in one summer would be a very big risk. If he does want to go I would imagine he has been told his dream move to Barca will happen if he gives us one more year? Not ideal, but the most practical solution going into the next season.

I don't see Masch going this season. There is no way Rafa would allow both his midfielders to leave and Barca have said they are not buying anymore players.
