Identity is one of the most important things in football thats why fans are so fiercely protective and where your from gives you your identity. I agree Liverpool does'nt have the sectarian element now but it definately did do in the 1960,s but not to the extent of Celtic and Rangers, Liverpool was always regarded as the Protestant Club with Everton being the Catholic one.

Lets keep the talk about football shall we instead of talking about Blacks. There is no real evidence to suggest either team has any real links with either Glasgow Clubs, so there is no real answer. I was born and brought up in the City, am catholic and if anything I prefer Celtic to Rangers having said that while i was growing up Everton where always seen to be the Catholic Club and were linked closer to Celtic than Liverpool, even there famous song of on the banks of the royal blue mersey mentions,
" So to hell with Liverpool and Rangers too
We'll throw them all in the Mersey
And we'll fight fight fight
With all our might
For the lads in the Royal Blue Jersey"

you's 2 still arguing about this lol

"Religious differences have been cited as a division, with Everton usually placed on the Catholic side;[52] however sectarianism is never a derby day flashpoint. The fact both teams were founded with Methodist involvement, somewhat undermines the notion of a Catholic–Protestant split."

ever notice that the only people who use cathholic/prodestant differences as a tool to segregate/exclude/ discriminate etc are the most hateful narrow minded bigoted people of society who have no concept of what their religion even teaches.
