Was just having a look at the table and see were ten points off the top so i started thinking where would we be without the defensive errors we have had and how many points we have dropped

Arsenal (Reina)
United (Carragher)
Sunderland (Johnson)
Blackpool (Poulsen and Johnson)
Blackburn (Carragher)
Stoke (Konchesky)
Spurs (Konchesky and Skrtel)

Thats all i can think off feel free to add more but alot of points have been thrown away due to lapses in concentration and poor defending in the games above we have dropped at least ten points due to theses mistakes

Perhaps if we hadn't been so set on defending those players would not have had the chance to make those errors. Your defenders will make mistakes when they are constantly under pressure. Were we playing an attacking game I'm sure this thread would be more about how many chances Torres, N'Gog, and Maxi have squandered. You certainly can't say we deserved a point against United - they should have been 5 up by half time if we use the same "what if...?" argument. The table doesn't lie - we are exactly where we deserve to be.

you need the ball to score a goal. same for the opposition. Even against Villa a game which we dominated, our possesion for the game was only 50%. when Alonso was here we were up in the 60% region most of the time.

therefore the reason we create less and score less is because we have less of the ball. same for defending, if they have it more than us generally they will have more chances and therefore more errors are likely.

we didnt lose any points at home to blackburn. we won the game 2-1 and there wasn't a lot carragher could do about that.

also in the united game, torres should not have been marking berbatov from set plays

it's not just defensive errors dude, we really lacked character and willingness in many games. Like against spurs, I thought we played better than they did most of the game. It was easy balls missed by Maxi and Torres that game. It doesn't mean that our backline is perfect, it's for sure needs much work. At least, when I compare these games to Rafa's games, we have our midfielders back the defenders now. They do it better than Rafa's era. I do agree with CP1972, too. We possess the ball less.
When we watch all games this season, almost all goals or dangerous chances for other teams came from back sides. In depth, we sometimes do well and some others we're so open. If we wanna repair our back line: we should possess ball more, we should have our midfielders back so fast with a better bonding with defenders, and we shouldn't miss easy balls to score. It's more tactical work than players. Though, I'm not pleased most of the games.

i know we didnt drop points against blackburn but it was shocking defending i understand the points made above about us not taking our chances and being under pressure alot but alot of these goals couldve been prevented for example reina dropping the ball into the net against arsenal poulsens handball against sunderland johnsons pen against blackpool and its not just the premier league even the europa league prime examples being reina again and poulsen vs napoli these could all be avoided by better concentration and better awareness

torres-9, if you look at all the 20 teams in the premierleague, you will see that their defenders has also commited mistakes, its not only us, If chelsea's defenders have not made any mistakes in the past month, then they would be another 10 points ahead of us. Mistakes occur all the time, so no point going back and blaming our players for it.
