Yes Purslow helped get rid of the yanks but he has completely fu**ed us up when it looked like we can look forward to a bright future. First point, he sacked Rafa because we finished 7th and some fans turned against Rafa even though he was "building something". Second point, he hired Hodgson. Not because of Roy's ability to work on tight budget, not because he has won various trophies across Europe and not because he got Fulham to 7th. Its because he got them to the Europa League Final (and that's it) and Roy won many plaudits. He opened the Sunday paper and read that Rafa had done a bad job, so he sacked him...and read that Roy did a marvelous job, so hired him. Third point, he thought he was a football guru and took control of the transfers. Once again, he read that Insua was terrible so got rid of him against Roy's will not looking at his age and potential but just his previous season (which he did with Rafa). He then did a Houllier and sign someone based on World Cup performance. Meireles is actually a good player, but come on, £11.5m on someone with 1 year left on their contract. This was an obvious Purslow signing because Roy had planned to use Gerrard, Lucas, Poulsen in the middle and had to accomodate Meireles on the left. He was also responsible for selling 2 of our most promising youngsters, Dalle Valle and Nemeth. Both didn't have the chance and will end up being worth 10 times more than what we sold them for. Could've helped us this season as we only have Torres and Ngog. He then let Roy sign garbage in Konchesky and Poulsen. Someone like Dalglish in charge would know who is and who is not Liverpool standard. Roy certainly doesn't know. I even think most of the players don't rate Roy. In the end, the man responsible is the one who hired him...Purslow.

always trying to find a scapegoat
pretty sure hicks & gillett played their part too. it really was doom & gloom for us in the summer one of the worst times we have endured for everybody involved with the club. although purslow was appointed by H&G i believe he had the clubs best interests at heart. the sale of the club helps back that up. rafa wasn't on the best of terms with the owners or the board so it was probably the right time for him to move. who wouldn't turn down an opportunity to join the european / italian / italian cup winners after a disastrous season in the premier league and a board he can't get his own way with?
in the same sense though i still don't think roy hodgson is the long term answer for us. reminded me of the appointment of steve mclaren as england manager at the time (off the back of europa league success). but without rafa who else was there to attract? the board must have seen hodgson as a quick fix until the takeover and future of the club was sorted. heres some interesting facts about hodgson though:
since 1997 over 6 seasons for blackburn, fulham and liverpool hodgson has won just 11 away games.
in his 35 year career as a football manager he has landed just one league title in a scandinavian league.
the age for retirement in england is 65. roy hodgson is 66
all that aside though i think we and the board all know he is not here for the long term. hopefully any "world class" signing (as commoli calls it) will signal our intent and long term vision that will allow us to attract the right manager in the future. but for now its probably best we stick with him at least until the end of the season because we don't have many other options and we didn't in the summer either.

...so I presume you're all happy about our current predicament. Purslow disregarded Kenny and appointed Roy. Roy and Purslow then proceeded to sign Poulsen, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Meireles, Wilson. None have done that well, although Meireles will become a good player. I remember Rafa got criticised for not signing a striker, Roy had £25m to spend and didn't sign 1 striker! He sold Nemeth and Dalla Valle too! Just to point out, I believed Rafa should've gone in the summer. I wasn't a Rafa fan till I die kinda person.

there is nobody to blame, we got rid of the owners and we got rid of the manager who had lost the dressing room. rebuilding again so lets not blame anybody. Blame me if you want. As I have said many times, EVERYTHING IS my fault.
