raul is a proper player and who's all the rest. cole yep hasn't done well.konchesky struggled ,thought he played well against bolton though and poulsen who is way off the pace.
not a great record starting off granted. but he hasn't had any real money to spend of note. net spend has to be zero or something. and we all know how lfc fans love the net spend figures.
Wrong. Roy made a profit in the transfer window, nothing significant though, and only on the back of selling two academy players to Fulham. Regardless though, "didn't have any money to spend" is usually the line abused by those who felt Rafa didn't have a fair shake of the stick, so now it's being used to defend Roy, but without apology to Rafa.
Two-faced, to say the least.
Reclaim wants Rafa and Roy to be compared under identical conditions. Well the last transfer market was identical conditions, so there's no point in making excuses for Roy now is there? Rafa had bad buys, so did Roy. Raul looks a decent player though, so I think Roy got one right. Cole is a different matter because he clearly signed for us on the back of certain promises regarding position that haven't been fulfilled. Not sure what to think about that, but either way he's not a shining light on the wing, is he?
So for me Roy and Rafa are similar in the transfer market, though Roy certainly set his sights lower in terms of targets (eg Carlton Cole). Which is why I think Commolli's appointment will be good for the club.
Roy could also learn to stop playing Poulsen now. I mean, Rafa's biggest failure was playing Lucas all the time, but now we're crying out for him to be on the pitch. Ironic, really.
Also, Roy's start has been in kinder conditions (extra Europa qualifiers against minnows rather than champions' league, northampton etc), yet his record is barely comparable, and ONLY because something happened prior to Blackburn after Reina demanded a meeting with the owners (whether his meeting was the catalyst or not is moot - it was at that time). Since then we've won 3 on the trot playing more suitable tactics, youth players have been getting chances again (after a non-appearance by any of them post-northampton) and so on. WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING ALL ALONG, in other words.
Now maybe Roy will go onto greater success, but he's a stubborn old man and one can only behave out of character for so long. We saw what he was capable of when not controlled. Struggling in the Europa group stage against teams no fit to lick our boots, 19th on goal difference after 8 EPL games, lost to northampton. THAT isn't good enough for anyone, least of all LFC. Try to maintain a sense of perspective.
Rafa was sacked for being sub-standard. Roy does not reach Rafa's grade, there really isn't any point debating this FACT any further, but he's being defended to the ends of the earth. That's what I don't understand. Rafa might not have made fans of everyone, but he did deliver, both in terms of results and silverware. Roy doesn't promise that much; his modus operandi is to lower expectations, remember? Not a fit for LFC.
