I very much doubt this lazy journalistic story. Broughton and Purslow were looking for owners to inject capital spending into the team straight away i.e January! Buying Liverpool was dependant on an influx of cash for players, a new stadium or redevelopment of Anfield and the wiping out of the vast majority of the debt. This would have been written into the deal. As I said yesterday in another thread Henry did not rule out big purchases in January, the media have twisted the words. He said we needed to spend wisely and make every dollar count. The theme I picked up was that they wouldn't spend big money on older players and not be giving out ridiculous contracts. If we go for younger players like Young, Hazard, defour etc what the hell is wrong with that. The club has just gained £36m a year in profit because we have no huge loans anymore! Even if we spent only that each summer, it would make a massive difference to what we've been used to in the past 2/3 seasons i.e only spending what we've got in from player sales. I'm sure NESV will still allow the manager to spend what he brings in as well and even if they throw only another £10m of there own money into the pot each summer, you're looking at the best part of £50m a summer! That's extravagant for us. NESV have been very quiet and given the media nothing to print, that's why their resorting to making things up. What NESV have said is they want to be winners and they know only spending money "WISELY and making EVERY DOLLAR count" on the right players is going to do this.
