I agree with Carlos - why are we looking for salvation from people who can't get into decent Premiership sides? Yes, I realize that players like Mascherano and Tevez mainly warmed the bench at West Ham, but I think that we need to raise our standards a bit. We should be signing players that Arsenal would want to take off our hands, not vice versa.

The problem I have with Defour is that he comes from the same league as Jovanovic, who was supposedly the best in Belgium. If Defour is therefore strictly worse than Jovanovic, why are we even thinking about signing him?

We have missed out on a number of decent players from the championship in the past Ramsey, Lennon, Bale, Andy Johnson etc. You will probably laugh at me but Charlie adams at Blackpool looks a much better player than some of the muppets we have in midfield
