"There are a lot of positives we can take from every game we've played and there have been some negatives, but we tend not to dwell on that." - Sammy Lee.

This is a quote from the official site. What's wrong with that statement?

The last bit: "have been some negatives, but we tend not to dwell on that". So glossing over the problems will make them go away then? This is a fundamental training flaw; you have to fix what is going wrong, otherwise it will continue to go wrong no matter what you do to avoid it.

Now ok, the big negatives for me with Liverpool right now have to do with strength in position (or this should rather be written as "lack of quality across the pitch"), and player attitude. The former we can't do anything about until the next transfer window, regardless of our ownership crisis. The latter is supposedly Roy's forte, and therefore should be solvable by the manager (though he's not going to solve this problem by ignoring it!).

Any other negatives should be dealt with every single day: lack of familiarity in formation, general ball skills, player communication, manager tactics and team selection etc. Now maybe Sammy thinks these things will "come out in the wash" during the natural course of training, but to be honest we've played rubbish football for much longer than the 6 EPL games so far this season, so whatever training drills we're doing are not helping.

I think we're getting to the end of the excuses now, but the cracks behind the beauty are already glaringly exposed. We have an average squad with an average management team, and expecting anything other than average performance is downright stupidity at this point. Yes, I think we can improve our performance and our tactical nous, but in order to do that every single person in this club has got to face the truth that all the people in the club (managers, coaches, players etc) are either not pulling their weight or are in the wrong weight division entirely.

do you know something, i can handle and support a team of average ability, but its the average attitude that i have a problem with. The Wimbledon of old used to have very limited ability but fck me noone wanted to play them. they came out to break up your game, and you, in order to get the points. it was ugly, but at least it was proper effort and focus and a crowd can cheer that on. but how can you cheer on average attitude and effort? how can you urge a runner around a track if he is running at a canter.
its not ability that is holding us back as much as it is this poxy clock in clock out attitude.

Unfortunately as much as he has done for the club I don`t see him being a number two, better off looking after the reserves or Acadamy I think. We missed the boat with not putting McAllister in there.

It is? I kinda prefer to hear: "There are positives and negatives to take from every match, and we're focusing on doing more of the former and less of the latter." Or even, "blah blah, and we're putting our efforts into learning from our mistakes."

"Tend not to dwell on that" is a very different thing to say, and it immediately struck a discordant note.

Maybe I did over analyze what he said, but the attitude of our players is a concern right now, so if our coaching staff are also rather too matter-of-fact about poor performance then I'm more than merely disappointed with everyone. Makes me think we're going out there to "try our best", and then make excuses in the press when our best isn't good enough. We should be going out there to win.

I agree and to be brutally honest, I'd go as far as saying he shouldn't be at the club. Souness brought him back to the club, he was the during the Roy Evans era, then the houllier era and then the last couple of years of rafas, yet he's still here? Why?

I don't think he's a bad coach, I just think if a manager goes so should the backroom staff and freshen the whole place up with new ideas etc. He's defo out stayed his welcome for me

he is a terrible coach, the players have no respect for him and he is little more than a joke who is there purely because he used to play for us and is a local lad - get rid and get someone in who can do the job ..... even a half decent coach would be a huge improvement

How about, we're not making a Big Mac, very little at the club is ideal and the lack of any patience what so ever, maybe a sad indictment of modern society, but is a fact of life at LFC or any other club in a mess and that there are very few quick fixes when competing at this level and clubs with the resources of your Manchester and London outfits.

So Samy could have probably chosen his words better, but this constant nit picking by so many who appear to have had delusions of being top of everything after a handful of games and a squad struggling with lack of quality is very very boring.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.
