I remember the Evans era, then the Evans Houllier era, then Houllier on his own and then Benitez which a lot of us thought would be the messiah. But have we really been good enough all along. We did not get to where we are overnight.

Along comes Hodgson and yet again a lot of us imagined, hoped for and dreamed of that title challenge and possible trophies. For the first time in decades this is the first time that I have been realistic. We might not reach the top four this year. Not for a lack of trying but because there is something wrong in a huge way. Look at the Gerard and Torres at Sunderland. Torres made the goal Gerard scored ran straight passed Torres and Torres did not join in the celebration. He did not even smile.

Then onto other matters, take away the normal culprits the owners. Look at the squad and the manager. Have Hodgson really changed much in regard to tactics to Benitez? Yes he let a lot of the deadwood go brought in a couple of decent players but what is really his way of playing. To me he seems confused or afraid to be bold and put his stamp on LFC.

Yes I might be wrong and we might start winning tomorrow. GD I hope so but I am not optimistic at all. But through it all win or loose I will forever stay a Red. Liverpool for life.

4th place or 5th place with a trophy...We should be targeting this because Rafa won us Champions League with an awful squad he inherited and Roy has inherited a decent squad. Plus, our starting XI looks strong on paper compared to others.

We just need to accept Liverpool Football Club do not win leagues anymore. We have gone over twenty years since we last won the league and even Everton who have only gone three years longer this proves it's no blip. I suppose because we are Liverpool fans we will always paper over the cracks and make out things are better than they really are and we are always only a couple of things away from winning leagues again, but how long can we carry on thinking like this before the penny drops. The way we are thinking now is the same way as fans like Leeds United in the early 70's and Everton in the mid 80's probaly felt by thinking there success would always return but look at there clubs now. I think a similar post has been put on here before about this sort of thing but I happen to agree with it.

Expectations can be about one thing only. Getting a good owner, We are on the biggest water slide in disneyland until this happens. Then and only if we get good ones can we talk about winning or maybe will getting back into the premiership (heavens forbid this happening). But that's it

The point about new owners and big money is futile. Clubs like Spurs, Villa, Newcastle have not made big money investments or at least have not exceeded our spending substantially in the past 5 years, yet we are playing catch up today. There is more to it than just money, the players in the team today are much better than our position indicates.
Courting Barry while we had Alonso working like a magician for us, courting Klinsmann while Benitez was doing ok-ish, not like Klinsmann was a German Mourinho. I mean Roy Hodgson just does not seem to be cut-out for the hustle bustle of top league football. I think more than players what we need is a tactician who can get players playing to a system. Hodgson is just lost when there is no individual flair to save the day. I'm sure with the right manager and right attitude this same team can be 6-7 in the league. Using ownership issues to justify weak performances on the pitch is not acceptable. We have been outplayed by the likes of Sunderland, surely the malaise runs deeper than just ownership.

We may have problems but yet we are not broken, the main problem is that we used to look for a title or a trophy every year and therefore we were getting the best of everyone, this year we just don't stand a chance, everybody knows it and its why big names aren't performing
these are the only three beautiful scenarios out of this:
1- the way we are going with, new owners & fundings = new improved team that does well no matter who's in charge (bar the likes of Dominic grin )
2- if not then a world beater coach that does magic (Heddink)
3- and if we are lucky enough then perhaps both 1 & 2

If the owner situation does not change, we should prepare ourselves for midtable mediocrity every season.

Well at least we have a mid table manager to help us get there.

How many years did man u go without winning the title? Clubs go through them, but with support I doubt our club will finishing mid table for very long. This is a time when you find out who your supporters really are
