you make some good points but we cant have a season with kuyt and jovanovic on the wings and except to finish in the top 4 they give us nothing in open play
With the workrate from both these players plus Torres closing down defenders we have one of the best pressing attacks in the league who can pressure opposition into making mistakes with Cole / Gerrard able to profit. We don't have to have mazy wingers burning up the sidelines, we came second without proper wingers, we missed Alonso more than we missed wingers which is why Meireles / Poulsen are important signings.
Put it another way, we'll never be Arsenal or Barcelona in the style we play football, but, imagine a team that overnight developed a real strong mental strength and togetherness. Now, ally that to a rigid defence and playing direct (almost counter attacking) style football, perfect for (a fully fit) Torres with through balls from Gerrard and Cole with Kuyt / Jovanovic working hard to win the ball back for midfielders to attack.
Get the mindset right, get the group playing for each other, hopefully stay injury free and we have enough quality to challenge anybody. It's as much a mental thing as anything else.
