if a team plays a 5man midfield like we do we cant have all 5 being to defensive.yes they should be aware of defensive duties but more importantly be ready to attack down the line not come inside to where most of the team are.

did we not watch the world cup? nobody has wingers anymore. the idea being the full backs push into the space leaving the 4 in the middle 2 centre halfs and two DEFENSIVE centre mids. on saturday in the first half we were to ridgid and this did not allow the fullbacks to push on midfield looked terribly one dimensional. 2nd half Kuyt went left of a attacking 3(SG+FT+DK) and the movement was so much better. Both Johnson and Agger found space. Now replace Dirk with Cole, Agger with Konchesky and Poulson with Merieles and it starts to look quite dynamic.

I think its very important we do well in the league but at the same time i think Torres patience might run out if he doesnt have a medal of some sort at the end of the season. Difficult one but top 4 is a must i think, anything else is a bonus.

The most important thing this season is to get the new owners sorted out. We don't really have the players to mount a serious challenge unless they really gel well. We should be ok for top 6 but the Champoins League may well be out of reach this season. If we don't get a striker today, it could be a bit of a struggle.

for starters, i don't think jovanovic is good enough to start with, not these four together (poulsen, lucas, kuyt, jova)
so keep kuyt & poulsen in starting XI, jova for reserves & lucas for home

Sorry buddy, don't wanna put a downer on our team because that isn't helpful, but compare that to those you think are top 4 material/candidates, be as objective as possible, and tell me where you think we rate in terms of our team sheet. For me, and it is just my opinion, but there is nothing top about that squad, we have a fairly good starting 11 with 3 r 4 positions being top top class, but for me our squad certainly is not top based on the team sheet.

I do agree that teams nowadays play with no wingers. Full backs push up and whipped the ball in. How many times we saw Johnson did just that and slow in coming back to defend. I would rather the two wingers or should i say Midfielders be deployed wide right and left, take on defenders, cut in and give it a go. Rather than just whip that hopeful ball in and hoping for Torres to meet it.
