I think we are looking at this the wrong way. Although we need 8 english/welsh registered players, the bottom line is we cannot register more than 17 foreign players in the 25. I presume these will be:

Meireles, Agger, Aurelio, Torres, Jovanovic, Kyrgiakos, Maxi, Kuyt, Babel, Lucas, Wilson, Ngog, Reina, Poulsen, El Zhar, Skrtel.

This is 16 & doesn't include Pacheco who was with us before he was 18.

Thats a better way to look at it... if we do sign another forward who is not english/welsh then would replace El Zhar in that list

we gotta get who we can afford at the moment, when the takeover happens in the next decade i would like us to be given the money to make about 7 quality signins in the summer at minumum and spend atleast £100m

Is Gulacsi English/HG? I would think the squad would have a 3rd 'keeper surely.

Also Spearing and Darby are 22 on 1 Jan 2011, so I'm not sure whether they would need to be registered as part of the squad 25 or not; unclear on the rule. If they must then we have 9 HG players minimum.

they dont have to be from the UK to be home grown they have to have been at LFC for 3 years between the ages of 16 to 21 so i believe pacheco also counts towards our HG count as will a couple of other players that we will have forgotten

I was stunned when we spent such a large sum on Aquilani, then he did virtually nothing after joining us. Losing him is a detriment - how? Joe Cole hasn't set the pitch alight (yet) but in the long-term I'd back him over Aquaman without question. We'll also get something when he eventually joins another club whereas Cole was a free transfer.

Paul Konchesky may be no Stuart Pearce, however he's a long way better than the three clowns previously vying for the left-back position. Aurelio was undoubtedly the least incompetent but all he possesses is a winning smile and the occasional good free kick.

As to the reserve players Nemeth and Dalla Valle, they would have gone the way of 99% such youngsters - in five years they will be battling for places in Macclesfield Town/Huddersfield/Stevenage Borough's starting line-ups, I watch at least 2 out of 3 reserve games and they are promising at that level only.

Give Roy a chance FFS - he's got a great IQ, fantastic attitude and winning mentality.

Why wont top class forwards sign for us because of Torres is still with us then?

Torres plays best on his own up front, it is his prefered position. Hodgson has said the profile of the player he is after is another torres type player. He has plenty of just behind the striker players. Shows he wants to play torres up front on his own with one just behind. This means this other torres type player will have to sit on the bench while torres is fit. A top striker doesn't want to do that.

i dont know what the deal is with our club and the total lack of decent wingers.for years now our team has been crying out fo width yet no manager seems to see it.i'm glad we have got a good new central mid player and i'm glad we have joe cole to help provide ammo,but aslong as we play with no width in the team we will always struggle to break sides down.we are being linked with Toivonen but he will be useless to us with-out crosses.maybe i'm just old fasioned but i like to see pacey wingers get down the line beat a man and cross the ball,this team cannot do it,Kuyt will never have the legs to get thejob done.i dont know who the best players for those postitions are but we need them and fast.
