Plus, how long does it take for Liverpool to start a game, arsenal-2nd half when down to 10 men
trazbonsor - did we ever get started
city- when we where 2-0 down
and I don't buy it when people say how long did it take fergie to win the league. We should give him time, [oops]. Say if we had mourinho in charge now I think he'd be performing miracles an we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

some of the reactions here are pathetic, saying roy isn't up to the job is just total crap..after 1 defeat. he is only here a matter of days really ,in terms of training sessions. he has inherited a pathetic squad and has been given no money to spend..we can't even sign luke fecking young for him ,so please leave the man alone. Not entirely sure about all that. It's not the defeat itself I'm worried about. I could handle a 3-2 loss away against a squad overflowing with money. But we capitulated utterly, and we had either no plan or the wrong plan from the start. Obviously Mascherano's antics disrupted our preparation, and I'm sure that got into the heads of some of the players, but regardless of how you look at it Roy failed this test badly. Any excuses are just that: excuses. If what you say is right and this was the best we could do, well, losers always complain about their best while winners go home and **** the prom queen. We are Liverpool! We want more than this half-hearted attempt utterly lacking in nous.

...and if Roy got caught with his pants down against City, will his pants be up in time for the game at Old Trafford?

You can't blame Roy, he can't alter mentality and change the style of play over night, it's going to take a good couple of months for this, you have to remember that half of the squad have only been back 2-3 weeks, he also has a lot of drivel to get rid of because of the previous manager and also the players that don't actually have the attitude or aptitude to want to play for our once great club!

Thundyr, a totally brainless analogy from yourself... We played a team that cost £300 million, when ours cost bargain basement with a scattering of stars.

Well said Emp. IIRC I stated that the knives would be out for Roy as soon as we lost our first game. How right, and it just goes to show what a fickle bunch some of these posters are that have suddenly appeared out of the woodwork. GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE FFS!!

I don't buy the "squad didn't get much pre-season" excuse. It's the same at every club with many international players in a World Cup year. I agree about it being difficult to change a person's perspective overnight, but why is he trying to change our style of play? Shouldn't we stick with what we know against the opposition who will stretch us (eg CITY AT EASTLANDS), and experiment when failure seems impossible (home games vs Wigan, Blackpool etc)? Roy got nothing right for this game, so why should we lay off him? Surely he will take all this criticism and emerge stronger from it? I didn't say we should boot him, but he needs to up his game. Let me put it into the perspective of last season. We had a wretched start due to injury and the Aqua scandal, but when we traveled to Stamford Bridge we had an opportunity to get to within 1 point of the top of the table; a win would have eradicated all the failings of the start of the season, and returned that fighting spirit. What happened? We traveled with a full strength squad but Chelsea won without working up a sweat, and we weren't the same team after. I see the same parallels with this game: we had the impetus, we had the belief, and frankly we had the squad. But we failed utterly in every respect. It's how we recover from here that will determine our fate this season. Another tame loss at Old Trafford will kill us.

I don't think you can expect us to compete with the top clubs at the moment, we are on a par with the Villas of the league. The difference with the other clubs is that they have stability, Roy has had no time to assess his players at all, so expect some hiccups along the way.
And as for the point about sticking to what we know... Ummm, changing our style is exactly what we should be doing, otherwise Rafa would obviously have won the league and we wouldn't have got rid!

Firstly we do not have the money to buy the league,so any manager will need time.Secondly that you are saying moneyinho would be performing miracles now is just total dis-respect to Roy and is not needed.Surely Roy gets 1 season at least to get things right,i cant believe the crap been thrown at him already

Instant success is what some of these eejits are expecting and demanding unfortunately. I knew a thread like this was going to erupt after our first defeat, so so predictable. Teddys and dummies flying in all directions this morning, pathetic and quite frankly, disrespectful.
