Marseille have reached an agreement which they hope will see Andre-Pierre Gignac move to Stade Velodrome.
Personal terms have been thrashed out with the France international, with a fee all that remains to be resolved.
The reigning Ligue 1 champions have made their move for the Toulouse striker after seeing Mamadou Niang offloaded to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
They are hopeful that a deal will be pushed through before the end of the summer transfer window, allowing Gignac to open a new chapter in his career.
"We have reached an agreement with the player but there also has to be an agreement with the club," Marseille chairman Jean-Claude Dassier told AFP.
While Didier Deschamps appears set to see his attacking options bolstered before the end of the month, confusion continues to reign regarding the future of Hatem Ben Arfa.
Exit
The tricky winger has made it clear that he wants out of Marseille and has recently skipped training in an effort to force himself through the exits.
A move to Premier League newcomers Newcastle has been widely touted, while Serie A outfit AC Milan are also believed to be keen.
However, Dassier insists there has been 'no news from Newcastle' and claims no agreement has been put in place.
He is prepared to part with the talented 23-year-old, though, and has refuted reports claiming Marseille are holding out for an exorbitant fee.
"I have no intention of wrecking his career," added Dassier.
