My thoughts entirely. Same goes for Torres.

I was actually quite staggered as to just how fantastic Cole was tbh.
His speed on the ball, and those little twists and turns were so so good and exciting to watch. You felt as though something really positive was going to happen every time he had the ball at his feet.

On that performance though, he'll now probably and unfortunately be called up for that absolutely pointless 'friendly' next week for Ingurland. mad

He better HADN'T come back knackered and injured. eek

That back heel to Stevie G was sublime. I watched Benyanoun for Chelse against Hamburg and thought he was average compared to Cole who had an outstanding debut.

I reckon he should support Torres in the middle. Players who are naturally gifted always find a way to understand each other on the field. Cole, Gerrard and Torres are in that category.

What was so staggering in my eyes, was that Cole appeared to have that understanding in his very first competitive match!
An awesome signing seemingly.

If he, Gerrard and Torres can all stay relatively injury free this coming season, then we ARE going to right up there, no doubt in my mind at all.

How many golden chances does Ngog waste? Answer, most of them. The team behind him are setting him up over and over again and he's missing the target, miscontrolling or running the ball into blind alleys when he should be through on goal. I'm all for giving him a chance but he cost us many many points last season by being, well, not good enough to score most of the gilt-edged chances that were presented to him.

The one he did get last night was a free header sitter and he'll never get that sort of space for in the PL. Even then he stuck it in off the underside of the bar. Almost another one missed. Hopefully we'll get a better striker in before the window closes so we have better cover for Torres. Nothing against Ngog the person but he's costing us too often in games.

I though Pacheco played well and looks like a star in the making - very hard to get the ball off. I hope he gets the games to prove himself.

my comment on Ngog was that he is getting in the correct positions to score (yes he misses far too many) but he will get batter and is only a back up striker who hopefully will have another year in the ressies before he is required. As for pacheco he was far and away the most wasteful player on show last night, gave the ball away and made the wrong decisions on passes more often than not, funny then that two of you at least say how well he did and also that Aquillani played well but rubbish Lucas. You know nothing obviously and perhaps you ought to start having you own thoughts instead of trying to win points with fellow Lucas haters?

cole was motm but good performances from most of the players to be honest.

ngog misses a lot of chances but i think he gets to much criticism in here. he's only 21 and he has all the time in the world to improve.

I'm not a Lucas hater. I think he looks quite good especially when attacking (not so good defensive.)

However, he was hopeless for a long long time and is only recently (last 6 months) putting in the better performances. Maybe Ngog would also improve after a few more years but you CANNOT sacrifice results and cup runs by using the first team to train up substandard players like Rafa did with Lucas.

As for Aquilani - who knows how he'll turn out? We've yet to see him play (for any significant duration on-pitch) for two games in a row that I can recall.

Who made up the phrase 'Lucas Hater' anyway. It's a bit playground isn't it?

Yer I agree with what you said about Lucas and Ngog. As for Aquilani - I think if he will become a very important player for us. I think he has shown he is technically good, and very creative. People were trying to compare him to Alonso last season when he is a different type of player. My only concern is that he seems very light on his feet and if someone was a bit aggressive with him he could get injured quite easily.
