Cole signing, Gerrard staying, Torres staying, says to me that a takeover is near completion. But not from the one you're hearing about.

Indeed, was there really ever that much doubt? Only Chelsea and City could probably afford him. Chelsea would have been most likely cos he'd be playing Big Cup footie, but clearly Abramovich does not ewant to spend that kind of money, especially on a player who has so many question marks over his fitness.

As for City, well they could afford whatever asking price Liverpool wanted - but money aside, there'd be little to attract him there at present.

Good news all the same, and may well suggest that the players believe Liverpool will get a big cash injection soon. But I'm not convinced that the likes of Torres and Gerrard ever really had extremely serious suitors.
