I'm not sure if his ready to be our first choice left back for this season and his been played as CD for the reserves quite bit.
But now you mention him it got me thinking we could have an awesome defense in a few years. Darby on the right, Coady & Wilson (The next lawro and hansen) and Mavinga out on the left. We've got Ayala and Kelly too. If they progress like we hope then the future is bright. Need to start blooding them soon tho.

He's looked good the few times I have seen him. Shame he looks like Djimi Traore though!! He will be much better than Djimi though.
I think we'll have a very strong side in a few years if we can bring the youngsters through. Pacheco has looked quality for years and we need to keep hold of him thats for sure. Then we have Amoo, Eccleston and Sterling too. I just hope they get the chance they deserve.

One of the things that does concern me slightly about Liverpool's signings is that, in the main, they are players who have just passed their peak. This would perhaps not matter all that much if there are youngsters coming up to take their place.
I don't know much about this lad Mavinga, but hopefully he will at least qualify as a home grown player.
It has worried me that Rafa was always a little wary about blooding the youngsters, and I feel that part of the problem was that he would have been roundly criticised if we had lost. The FA Cup defeat against Burnley was a good example.
There are, of course, ways of giving young players experience ; if, for argument's sake, we are 3-0 up at half time against Rabotnicki next Thursday, it's pretty safe to put in some reserves to play the second half, and Mavinga might be one.

We've made 3 signings this window and Cole at 28 is the oldest one, not really past it, at least he shouldn't be. Shelvey is 18 and Wilson 19 so they're ones for the future, hopefully the immediate future.
Mavinga will be classed as homegrown, in fact all the players mentioned on this thread will be if they stay with us until they are 21.
As for blooding them I think roy will be more willing because they're a year older and for a few of them this is the season they have to step up and we are going to need them to if we are going to challenge. Roy looks like his going to sell all the dead wood at the club so the only people to step in at present are young players coming through.
If there are injuries this year like there were last year then we definitely need them. I also think you need to put them in tight 0-0 or even 0-1 games since thats when the pressure is at its highest. All good and well performing when your 3 or 4-0 up but its when the game is tight that you really want the players to perform.

thing is tho once there 21 and over we've got to include them in the 25 man squad. I personally don't think darby is going to be good enough same goes for eccleston, just because they've done well in the ressys doesn't mean there good enough for the 1st team. The reserve league is abysmal, it's just full of hopefuls mainly 18-21 year olds playing against eachother with the odd 1st team player who is coming back from injury. I say loan some youngsters like darby out on loan and give them 1st team experience against men and see how they cope, against Kaiserslautern ayala, darby where out thought and physically out shone, they done ok thursday but to say there going to be class in a few years is bad judgement when we've not seen enough of them against premiership or championship sides

''All good and well performing when your 3 or 4-0 up but its when the game is tight that you really want the players to perform''
so you think throwing Kelly, darby, ayala, spearing into the mix when it's tight and where looking for three points, yet you might have establised players who are left out or on the bench who could be called upon with there wealth of experience? Yet another stupid comment, if there good enough they'll get there chances but even better would be to send these players on loan to experience these tight games when at 0-0 before we throw them in not knowing how they will cope, and like I said above, you can only learn this at top class football, prem, championship, league one. Let them get experience there and if they make mistakes then it's not costing us

Alright, calm down no need to get abusive.
I agree loaning makes lots of sense but playing at lower level premier league clubs and 1st division clubs is not the same as playing at the top of the league with a club like liverpool, where the expectation to perform is much higher and the stakes are much higher. A player makes a mistake for WBA and the paper wont mention it, an LFC player does that and its everywhere. We need to know if they can perform for us and not someone else.
Im not saying that the young players automatically get thrown in in a tight situation, Im saying they should not be precluded from doing so simply because they are young. If the skills they possess offer the best opportunity of exploiting a teams weakness then theres no reason not to give them a try. The senior players make mistakes too, just look at Babel, Aqua, Lucas, Skertel, Ngog even our stars make mistakes. Just because they have more experience does not neccessarily make them the best option. Circumstances dictate what the best options are and yes sometimes our young unknown players may provide the best option.
Also the home grown rules mean that players who are home grown will become very expensive, at least the good one will and they are ones I want at LFC. By the time they reach 21 we need to know whether they can wear the LFC shirt or not. Not all our youth players will make grade obviously but I have no doubt that some will.

Fair enough reply, didn't see where I was abusive tho?
only ones I can see making it is, Kelly, pacheco, sterling maybe mavinga, who knows! By the end of next season wel no more about these players who are under 21 and can maybe get a few games under there belt. Altho I focused my comment on mistakes it's not just about that, you've got to be something special to play for liverpool, carragher, gerrard, fowler, mcmanaman, owen even dominic matteo where in the 1st team when they where 17, 18, 19 and they had that extra something that you could tell they had in there game
Kelly had a man of the match performance against Lyon we've all seen glimpses of pacheco, what happnd to plessis the performance he gave against arsenal couple seasons ago was nothing short of outstanding. These to me seem the closest to the 1st team the others like amoo, eccleston, valle could be sent on loan for a year get some experience and they next year when there 20 we can give them a chance

Just the "Yet another stupid comment" part, nothing major.
I think my issue is that we've lost that part of club under Rafa where we brought players through. The players you mentioned there all came through long before Rafa came and even Houllier. Gerrard would have caught the end of the boot room era and I think its telling that we have not produced any real talent since then.
I just want to see if they can do it and we'll only find that out if we play them. It just frustrating that we have a history of producing players and all of sudden we've stopped producing.
Your right this year will be telling for many of these players and it will be interesting to see who steps up.
