Just over 2 weeks untill the start of the new season with Arsenal then City. Our main problem last season was no one up front to score goals without Torres.

If we don't get moving in the transfer market quickly and torres (if he stays) either out injury or not fit yet. We are in the same boat as last year. This would be not so bad if playing average prem teams but we could be potantially 6 points adrift and off the pace 8 days into the season.

I am massively concerned about not only being adrift so soon but the psychological effect this can have on the team going forward along with pressure from the media

We are not even being strongly linked with any strikers and as very few transfers go through quickly i am starting to get very worried and things for the new season don't look so good after all.

Jovanoviv is new but not proven and maybe played on the left wing. all of the others you have mentioned emp we had last season yet if torres had of been fit we would have been in the top 4. If we don't buy a good striker, doesn't have to be amazing just one that can do a job (i would evn be happy with crouch back) then i guarentee unless torres stays fit for the whole season and can play most matches we won't be any where near the top 4.

Thats if he plays Jova and Kuyt as strikers. Ngog Im not going to comment on. Dont forget about Pach though, I think he will have role this year. But I also think we do need a striker but first cover the LB position, then the DM position and then look at strikers.

This is the one area where I think Roy might look out of the PL as all the good strikers in it will be stupid money. No idea who he will go for though.

Emp could you please stop writing Ngog, its hurting my eyes and the name scares me each time I think of it in a LFC shirt!

To play up front by yourself you need to be fast to get on to those through balls that the likes of Cole will be providing. Thats the issue I have with Kuyt or Jova (I dont think his fast) playing up there alone.

There goes the right eye!

He can run? I should fecking hope so given his pro football player!
Now if we had Crouch back then play him and Jova/Kuyt together and that might work.

We are at a loss in this position, Kuyt is too slow, n'gog is crap, and Torres might get hurt again. Now unless roy is prepared to give Babel a go up front, then we DO need a proven striker.

Non of our strikers can play up front on their own except for torres. We need a good striker who can at least hold their own and put a bit of worry in the opposing defenders minds. Perfect example was Robbie Keane for the majority of the time he was with us Torres was injured, he didnt score much but was a threat for the defenders leaving more room for attack from our other players and getting us through torres injury period, after he left luckily torres never got injured that season. The following season we didnt have that type of player (bt that i mean a half decent one) and look were we ended up.

Not only do we need a striker for this reason but also for when torres (again - IF he stays) is fit and we are drawing games, we need a striker who can come off the bench and support the attack. we don't have anyone to do that which is why we draw so many. Everyone else in the top 7 has players who can come on and press for a winner. We don't.

What you guys need to understand is that no great striker will contend to be on bench (unless his only at are club for the money)

If we play 1 upfront it not worth buying another striker and if Torres is injured then we just play two upfront

I agree with you Ellisimo but chillout bro, we still have two weeks until the start of the season and a whole month until the window closes!

We'll deffo get another striker as the points you made are true. N'Gog is not ready to carry that burden. Jovanovic maybe the option but I don't trust Kuyt (well I do, about as much as I trust Berbatov - Similar goal output).

I think we need another striker in the Torres mould. Someone who ca do it all upfront on their own if necessary. Strong, fast and will put it in the net without being offside a million times a game (a la Anelka/Cisse).

I'm hoping that this year we will see the true emergence of Babel. This guy already has all of the tools to do the job and should already be Torres' backup. Just needs a manager to show the belief.

We shall see..........
