Im starting to get the feeling that there will be a limited number of exotic signings this transfer window(ie 1). I think Roy may be looking for only proven EPL experience in terms of senior players.
I dont think he wants to take any risks on players in the way Rafa did. He probably thinks that with the likes of Gerrard, Torres and Cole his enough class to succeed and is only looking to add steel and players with known EPL mentalities, hence the links to players such as Young and Petrov.
While this makes sense to an extent, but when you have someone as important as Mascherano who makes up one of the core players in the team alongside Gerrard, Torres, Reina etc... you have to be bold and replace them with the the best possible available otherwise you struggle. There is some good business to be done this summer, but not if we aren't interested in reinvesting the money coming in. A lot of fantastic player's will be being moved around in the coming weeks and at the moment, it looks like we aren't interested.
