what about a top 7 team?

i dont think he will be signed as a first team player, hes gonna be a bench warmer but at the end of the day its practical. u get aurelio, degen and insua off the books and replace the first choice left back with figueroa. and then young who can cover both sides and is english, seems practical to me

what else should we do sign 3 full backs? we need this kind of player, dont think theres many other english ones out there

i just think the price is high for someone that don't play, if we could get like 1.5m or less then it more realistic and it also depends on how much he wants in wages.

I agree with all of the above - simple luke young is not good enough. for me this is the middle of the table manager coming out in roy n failing tio make the step up.

Also what worries me is "young ponders anfield move" what the hell is there to ponder? Are we that poor at the moment?

Nope I with you want3d. As I said earlier in this thread its not just that he provides cover (ands thats all he'll do) his also home grown. At the moment we have a 21 man squad for next season because the only homegrown players over 21 that we have are Gerrard, Carra, Johnson, Cole. We can't rely soley on the youngsters, we do need some experienced heads.

Not a particularly exciting signing (if its even true) but it is a sensible one.

dont know but 2 players wages is gonna be less than 3, especially as insua's wage demands have stalled his move to italy.

i agree, and he's 31 but you never know exactly what the price is but its likely to be around the £2m mark and its not that bad considering the increased value set on english players these days. we signed arbeloa for the same purpose and around the same price and suprisingly he ended up being first choice by putting in some good perfomances.

just over the course of a whole season and playing in the europa league he's gonna be called upon at some point. someone thats got a bit of experience in the prem is always a bonus. im not saying hes an amazing player but we need a squad player than can cover left and right and makes up the english numbers.

Obviously I don't know how much truth lies in media speculation (probably none), but if for a second we take it at face value, I cannot get rid of the horrible feeling that Roy is going after sub par over priced english players just because they are english. All well and good saying we need more english lads, but most of the ones we are linked with, including Luke Young, are not the sort of names that make me believe liverpool are after top 4 again.

ok i am prepared to give him a shot if he comes, but if he played like he did when villa played Chelsea i will give abuse. The performance he gave that day was shocking.

i dont think its the most ambitious signing by any means and im not expecting fireworks. when you pay that kind of money you're not buying someone who is going to make a huge difference to the squad. i think he'll be able to put in some solid performances for us though.

Aurelio > Figueroa

Insua / Degen > Young

cant moan really can we? not when we're getting cash for insua and degen

This signing would really disappoint me. I'd rather spend more on a 24-26 year old LB who can make the position his own for the next few years as i'm sure we have enough cover already utilising some of our younger players like Wilson, Kelly etc and the versitility of players like Agger and Carra.
