Saw this on Sky Sports this morning.

What are people's thoughts?

Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Aston Villa have received a bid for full-back Luke Young.

The 31-year-old is now weighing up his options, with Villa prepared to let him leave should he wish to do so.

It is believed that Liverpool are the club to have made their move for the former England international, with a £2.75million offer on the table
Villa are prepared to let Young decide what his future will hold and will not stand in his way if he wishes to continue his career elsewhere.

They are, however, happy for him to stay and have revealed that he could link up with their squad heading for the Guadiana Cup in Portugal.

"There has been an offer from a football club, which Luke is mulling over," O'Neill told Villa's official website.

"If it doesn't materialise then he would also join us (in Portugal) because he needs to play some football soon."

"We will see how that develops."

Young joined Villa from Middlesbrough in 2008 and has made over 50 appearances for the club during his two years in Midlands.

He has seven England caps to his name, but announced his retirement from international football in February 2009.

No point going for players over 30 unless as a backup. Free, ok. nearly 3 million, no thanks.

We can and must do better.

Totally agree. would much rather we used martin kelly as back up to johnson, a years first game experience and he'd be far better player than young.

Didn't villa use him in the left back position? Also,we probably need to up our english quota of player's.Like other's have said, too expensive & not good enough, unless he's just gonna fill a squad position. But l'd still say no.We can't afford to waste any money.

This only make sense from a squad and British quota position, we now have 5 senior british bred players over 21, need 3 more if we are going to have a full 25man squad. He can play both LB and RB so I believe he is coming only as a cover, no way he'll be a starting player.

The only positive I can bring to the table is that he is consistent and is the sort player who Roy will have playing at his very best.

Still struggling to really except this one but if he comes no point in whining about it, lets just hope some real quality follows his arrival.

good cover imo - used to the PL so not a big risk - we really struggled when Johnson was out last year and not sure that Kelly is ready really.

is a bit pricey though

Very true.We have lost Insua & Aurelio,so we probably need two leftbacks. Will have to have a good look at the squad to see who's english & what position they play.
