That's Jansen out of the equation for the LB postion. Shame, I liked the idea of him.

he's only said he respects his contract at hamburg, im pretty sure riera and insua respected theres before they went too lol, but if figueroa's agent is saying only a few minor details before signs then he should be the one now, it seemed the most likely all along to be honest. id still like to see us go for salcido too. player of his quality at £2m is hard to come buy. we need another arbeloa who could slot in either side though that would suit us perfectly.

seen a few stories about a cash plus poulsen deal for daniel agger, can't see it happening. if any of centre halfs should go its skrtel and soto. plus whatever if our left back is injured then agger would be expected to slot in, if not wilson.

Yep I rate Agger we should not sell him. To be honest I'm not to worried about our back line, if there is one thing Roy will do it will be to have them well drilled and organised. Figueroa seems almost certain to join, dont see Salcido coming though.

Maynor Alexis Figueroa Róchez (born 2 May 1983) is a Honduran footballer who plays for Wigan Athletic as a defender.

Career

Born in Jutiapa, Atlántida Department,[1] Figueroa started his career with Victoria. He was captain of Olimpia. In 2007, Figueroa received offers from Major League Soccer clubs, one of which was revealed to be the New England Revolution, but Olimpia's administrator, Osman Madrid, turned down all the offers. Figueroa has had previous interest from foreign clubs aside from those in the MLS. Club Toluca of Mexico being one of those making offers during 2007. However, during an interview, Madrid indicated the terms sought by other teams had been neither agreeable nor economically favorable to Olimpia or Figueroa.

On 20 December 2007, Honduran newspaper El Heraldo reported, as a result of interest expressed by the Premier League club Wigan Athletic, Figueroa would be travelling to England. In January 2008, Figueroa joined Wigan on loan for the rest of the 2007–08 season.[2] In July 2008, after a complicated process involving work permit and visa issues, Figueroa rejoined Wigan on loan for a further six months, after which Wigan had the option to make the deal permanent.[3]

On 23 December 2008, Wigan announced Figueroa had signed a three-and-a-half-year contract to join the club permanently.[4] He scored his first goal for Wigan on 11 January 2009. He scored a close range header to secure a late winner against Tottenham Hotspur[5] On 12 December 2009, Figueroa scored a goal against Stoke City from his own half to put Wigan in the lead. Figueroa noticed Stoke-goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen off his line during a free kick-situation and struck the ball quickly to send the ball soaring over Sørensen and into the net.[6] Although the match ended 2–2, Figueroa made the headlines the following day, with Alan Hansen calling it a candidate for Goal of the Season.[7]
[edit] Style of play

He is mostly known for his left foot, his powerful shot, his ability to take set-pieces and his long throw.[citation needed]

[edit] Personal life

Maynor Figueroa is currently married to Sandra Norales, a professional handball player in England who currently plays for the University of Manchester Handball Club. She is also an international with the Honduras women's national handball team or Federación Hondureña de Balonmano (FEHBALM).

Sandra and Maynor also have a child named Keyrol Alexis Figueroa. The family currently resides in Wigan, England.

Plus he's got PL experience so we dont have to worry about whether he'll be able to adapt or not!!

cheers. sounds like what we all want then, someone that is solid and can defend is most crucial. We havent had much in the way of a left back in a long time, Riise prolly be our best which says something

i think you are being very harsh on the guy. he was ok at tackling, had a bit of pace, fantastic left foot, gr8 stamina, good professional and his positioning was ok (mayb am wrong on that one)
