Emp nah i dont think Johnson's better than Alves. Alves is a real danger going forward. He takes freekicks and is very cunning player.

If you meant defensively, then perhaps..

I'm 100% in agreement with RedLaz. Why would we want to sell a player (presuming he's happy where he is) who has been pretty much solid as a rock in practically every game we've played in? Indeed, we're trying to strengthen the squad. Not create holes in it. I can think of far better options from a selling point of view.

We have a fantastic first team, when everyone is available. However, when we have an injury crisis, we have no one to act as back up. Or if Rafa wants to try his rotation system, the reality is, we can't do that effectively with such a limited squad.

We need to concentrate on clearing out the dead wood, and improving the depth of our squad.

Arbeloa clearly isn't (and won't be) happy in being the second choice right-back.

He's been good, and thanks, but he's blatantly off.

Aye, I'm not saying Arbeloa would settle for second choice, but (a) Johnson is also a great right full, and (b) Rafa likes his rotation policy. The point I was making, was that you can't enforce a rotation system if you don't have good replacements. I think we should be looking to provide these replacements, as our current first team is good enough.

As Carra said, there is no way Arby will want to be second choice. He has seen the signing of Johnson as his cue to leave and he has his agent touting him around. I don' think he wants to stay so I think get rid and give Darby a shot.

Yes the team is stronger but is the squad? Signing Johnson is great but losing the guy who held the position down last season doesn't add anything to the squad if Johnson gets injured. Hopefully one of the younger lads can step up. Understand Arbeloa may have got injured last season and if he did there was no real cover for him and if he departs, we would be in the same position.

Exactly my point ^^^^

I think we should be looking towards having at least 2 quality players for every position on the pitch. That's how Utd perform so consistently.

Fortunately, we've always seemed to do well as far as right fulls go. It's a long time since we've had a bad one. Arby, Finnan, Babel (Marcus, that is) Carra, Nichol, Neal..........It's definitely a position that never gave us much grief.

Yes I agree that we should try and keep hold of him but the problem is him wanting to stay knowing that he is second choice. He has seen what happened with players like Crouch and Pennant and he doesn't want to be sat on the sidelines for most of the season. I would say that Rafa would want him to stay but there is no use forcing someone to stay if they don't want to be here.
