Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson insists he is not concerned that he has not heard from Javier Mascherano since trying to contact the midfielder last week.
The Argentina captain is still on holiday after his World Cup exploits and is not due to return for pre-season training for another week.
"He doesn't need to make contact with me," said the 62-year-old. "I've made contact with him telling him I'm looking forward to seeing him in training when he returns from his holiday but I did make the point in the voicemail that I didn't expect him to contact me."
However, having met with Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to talk about his plans and their futures Hodgson was keen to speak to Mascherano, who still remains the most likely of the trio to leave this summer.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a reunion with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan, but Hodgson has not yet had an opportunity to sell his vision of a new era at Anfield as phone calls to South America have gone unanswered.
But the Liverpool boss is not worried by the situation and added: "I just wanted him to know that I had been in touch and that I was thinking of him. I didn't ask him to call me back. I don't have a lot to say to him, to be honest, other than 'Welcome back'."
With defender Emiliano Insua's transfer to Fiorentina nearing completion Hodgson is keen to find a replacement as soon as possible.
The Argentinian's departure, combined with the release of Fabio Aurelio at the end of the season, means the club do not have a recognised left-back.
"We are short and that is going to be one of the priorities," added Hodgson. "We need to find a replacement for Emiliano and Fabio. That is one job we will have to do.
"As far as we understand, the deal (for Insua) has been completed between the clubs and his agent is sorting out personal terms. Maybe it was the right time for him to move on."

Well if you decide to ply your trade in a foreign country, be sure of what it entails. Masch increasingly seems like a mercenary character, maybe we should have bundled Rafa and Masch together to Inter in a £25 million deal and Lucas too if Inter were that gulliable...

There is no honour in any of these Argies, there never has been cant people see what sort of people we are dealing with here, Rattin 1966 world cup, that horrible b*stard Tarrico at Ipswich and Spurs, Diego Maradonna say no more about what he was like and his off the field behavior,Claudi Cannigia, Letto and now Mascherano no coincidence they are all selfish and in it for themselves. Am still shocked about the sums of money being bandied around for a player who cant pass a ball five yards to a team mate, worst signing pound for pound in our history for me.

All I do is throw out the line in reel you in!
MR ANGRY YOU NEED CHILLAX! Good answer, I love wiping the floor with you and picking holes right through your arguments, look forward to doing it again with your next load of sh*te you speak, sorry talk about. What is it with your infatuation about me? You've not once wiped the floor with me and nor do you have the menatl capicity to wipe the floor with me. I suggest you concentrate more on getting through every day life and concentrate less on me you window licker. What it is, is that that I can pick holes in out of town woolies like you everyday of the week especialy when you sink to the depths of using illnesses as a stick to beat ex players who were good servants like Yossi, just like you did on one of your other posts. You are an embarrassment to all Liverpool supporters talking like that and would rather you attatched yourself to your local club whoever it may be instead of being a parasite who supports a team because they are successful.
