yea that's the thing emp, we rely too much on him. bring in some real quality in the squad and then both him and liverpool will be fine.

Liverpool are waiting to discover the full extent of the injury sustained by Fernando Torres in Sunday's World Cup final.

The Reds striker suffered an injury to his left adductor seconds before the full-time whistle in Johannesburg and struggled to take part in the celebrations in the immediate aftermath of Spain's 1-0 extra-time victory over Holland.

The striker has since returned to Madrid along with his victorious teammates and is now waiting to discover the full extent of the problem.

Mark my words this injury with Torres is the start of things to come with him this season, the man is never off the treatment table and that is no good for us whatsoever. Torres now looks like he is going to play no part in any pre season training and as we all know when you miss that you are playing catch up for the rest of the season. The situation we are now in as a club is that Torres has become a luxury due to his injury ravaged career with us we simply cannot afford. This coming season there is a real possibility we will play more games in one season than any other in our history, this will mean there is more demand on players fitness levels and having a croc like Torres is no use to us. If we can secure the transfer fund for our manager we need to grasp it with both hands because the longer we keep hold of Torres the more injuries he will get and the more his tranfere value will plummet, look at what happend to Michael Owen after scoring both goals in the Cup final against Arsenal he was never off the treatment table, players as they get older are more prone to injuries and take longer to shake them off, we really need to cash in on this man while City and Chelsea are still both interested and are not seemingly worried about signing a croc.

Liverpool are hopeful the injury sustained by Fernando Torres in the World Cup final isn't as bad as first feared.

The Reds' striker pulled up with what appeared to be a serious injury just seconds before the final whistle in Sunday night's game, sparking fears he could be set for a lengthy lay-off.

But Dr Peter Brukner, the new Head of Medicine and Sports Science at Anfield, has moved to reassure fans Torres shouldn't be sidelined for too long.

He said: "We've been in touch with the Spanish medical team and they don't think it's too serious. It's an adductor muscle injury but they've not had a chance to assess it today.

"Fernando will have a proper assessment and probably a scan tomorrow and some of the Liverpool medical staff will go to Madrid later in the week to fully assess the injury and organise his rehab. At this stage we don't think it's too serious.

"We can't say too much more at the moment until it is properly assessed."

Words are marked, and was not going to play any part of pre season anyway cos he will still be on his hols when we play our first competitive game. He has an adductor injury, 4 weeks rest is the normal cure for a groin strain. But comparing him to Michael Owen is going too far. Come Christmas when he will be in double figures for league goals, people's negativity might just go away.

By the way, cashing in on the best to get someone half the player is a sign of giving up. Do you want to give the title to Chelsea or Man City? Do you want money to spend on someone who isn't good enough?

Very reassuring words those Scannerman. Wish I had and shared your crystal ball and optimism however.
Just hope you are right, but Torres' medical record does not make good reading over the past 18 months.

just been reading a couple of spanish websites and one quotes:

Striker Fernando Torres suffered a small tear in the fascia of the adductor of the right leg. The Liverpool player was subjected to an ultrasound today by doctors at the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF ), which dispelled any doubt about the seriousness of an accident which is estimated to keep the player about three weeks off .

Fernando Torres, who jumped in 105 minutes of the match in place of David Villa, injured minutes later when trying to reach a ball.

During the race , Torres suffered a "shot "in the thigh that made him stop and fall on the playing field, requiring to be addressed.

At first , it was feared some muscle injury severity, but the medical evidence was submitted today in Madrid have diminished the importance of the incident. ( EFE )

Sorry about the grammar, but used the google translator.

I have never thought about signing one player to replace Torres, my idea as I have said in previous posts it to replace him with maybe two good forwards and a winger maybe just like we did when we replaced Rushie all thosae years ago with Barnes, Beardsley and Aldridge. It looks like my forecast of Torres missing pre season have come true it's going to be a minimun of four weeks out. I am sorry but if this is not a foresight in to what is the future for Torres this season then I dont know what is, I personaly think this man has become lame like what happens to racehorses, it's one injury after another throughout his career and it wont get better as he gets older, the man can'nt play more than a few months without picking up some sort of injury with his legs. One minute it's his hamstrings, next it's his thigh and now he has a small rip in his abductor which incidently was his first injury at Liverpool when he was substituted against Arsenal at half time. You will find he will end up missing a third of our games each season if we keep him, we need to cash in while clubs like Chelsea and City are around because they have more money than sense and can carry a lame duck.
