What we're seeing is the psychological consequence of last season's quad collapse. It stems from Klopp to his coaches and right through the team... the mental repercussions are plain to see. These players did not become bad over night, did not become defensively abysmal overnight, did not become inept at attacking the opposition overnight... this is a malaise the has polluted the collective consciousness of our team and has resulted in a weird mix of apathy and a loss of confidence. How do you explain the sudden and colossal fall in form of players like TAA, VVD, Robbo, Salah, and all of our midfielders? If you're about to win everything and become the biggest legends ever and in just two games collapse into lucky double domestic cup winners, subject to everyone's banter around the world, it's bound to have some psychological effect. They couldn't get up for the new season, they are struggling to 'go again,' they look jaded and mentally tired, even apathetic when it comes to the things they normally do like pressing. This is not helped by ageing and FSG refusing to strengthen properly - but there is no denying we're in some mental funk. Whether it lasts the season and costs us a CL place remains to be seen. Recent injuries (which are another manifestation of the mental collapse) would suggest that it will.
