that is strange. we need to add a new lb as the situation is right now so if insua left would we then be looking for 2 new lb's? mavinga looks like a great prospect but not sure if he's ready for the 1st team yet.
yea figueroa would cost around £5m or so.

Alright, I'm going to break down what I think we still need:
Left Back - this is what I think is are main priority (especially if Insua leaves). I think Maynor Figueroa would fit well because of his experience in the PL.
Holding Midfielder - If Masch and Lucas leave we have no one at this position, I personally don't think Lucas is good enough anyway. We have been linked with Banega in the past and I think he would fit well there. Also, Gilberto Silva could be an option.
Right Midfielder - I don't think Kuyt played well in that position last season and is better as a striker. Two words JOE COLE.
Striker - I think we really need a top class or at least very good second striker, we have been linked with Bryan Ruiz and Stefan Kiessling who could possibly fill that void.
Left Wing- I know we have just signed Jovanovic but he prefers playing as a forward rather than a winger and if Babel and Riera leave we won't have much depth at this position, maybe we could sign someone like Arda Turan who has been heavily linked.
Possible other weak areas:
Backup GK
Centre back
Back up RB
I know we don't have much money but, if we sell some of are players (which looks likely) then we could possibly make a move for some of these.

Good summary. I'm actually quite hoping the Wright-Phillips rumours are true. If we could get him and Cole would be two shrewd signings. Sounds like Roy likes this Ruiz and wanted him for Fulham so I think that could happen but I reckon for around £10m. The kid from Wigan at LB and we'd be sorted,especially with Javonovic now signed as well. I think Aquilani will be like a new signing for us and I'm also expecting big things from Maxi in his first full season. We'll probably have to shift out at least one more player to do all the above, Riera maybe? But if Roy is shrewd we might not be far away.

I said we should have picked up Wright-Phillips before he signed for City. I don't think we will sign both Cole and W-P though because the wages would be too high and they both play similar positions. I completely agree with what you said about Maxi and Aquilani, I'm sick of people saying we need to sell them both, they have only been there for one season! and I think they will have great seasons this year (especially Maxi), he had a great world cup. I think we should sell Riera, Babel, Lucas and Ngog or possibly involve them in a couple of deals. But I think picking up the LB and a good striker is essential.

I think figueroa from wigan would be a quality signing if we could get him. He is a strong, physical tough tacklng defender with premiership experiance who is already settled in area and wudnt have to move homes. I would also love wright-phillips a quick natural winger bags of experiance and rumoured to be available for nock down fee. Joe cole if poss added to that and jovanovic squad looking alot healthier without any real big outlay on transfer fee's.

I think we could "pinch" a few players from Man City. In my opinion these players will be off loaded:
M Richards/N Onahua (sp)
S Ireland
M Johnson
C Bellamy
R Santa Cruz
SWP
De Jong (Toure seems like a straight replacement)
I would take any of these players - even golf club wielding Bellamy!

If anyone is coming from bordeaux it should be Gourcuff  if Arda is coming then babel is definitely out, maybe Riera too Also its either Kiesling or Ruiz, the german guy is highly rated but Ruiz has a great hair :P And i hope Roy is not to fix LB with Figeroua, i'd rather more a player who is both a great LB and good CB
