I am sure we have had this discussion before but it is more and more obvious to me that TAA is not a top defender. He is among the best attacking defenders, but not good defensively. I don't know if he is asked to go in attack too much and struggles running back or he prefers to attack. Unfortunately we do not have a better defending full back so cannot try something else, maybe he would be more important to the team playing in midfield. Maybe Konate who apparently is very quick could be tried as right back. All in all, TAA is making our defence weaker, the 2 goals conceded against Brentford is a good proof.

Interesting topic of conversation ER.

Do you think we would be better changing to 3 at the back with TAA and Robertson playing more attacking roles?

Konate, VVD and Matip in Central defence would be formidable.

I think so, but Klopp loves his 433. Konate will also give us height on set pieces

What about a 3-4-3 formation with Robertson and TAA alongside Fabhino and Henderson in midfield? Maybe would stop midfield being bypassed.

Whatever the formation I think Klopp needs to take a look at the midfield and defence and come up with a formation that plays to our strengths (TAA and Robertson) but stops the leaking of goals that we have seen so far this season

Personally I think Gini left a massive hole in midfield and we have struggled to fill it - Thiago seems to made of glass and in some games the speed of the play passes him by, lets see what happens in January (if anything!)

We were shipping a lot of goals last season with Gini as well

3 CBs means changing from 523 to 343 depending if you are defending or attacking

Our fragility this season has been because the midfield has not been a consistent same 3. It puts our defence under pressure not knowing the players in front of them from one game to the next.

We've had so many different midfield combinations this season it's mirroring what was happening with our CB's last season.

I hope Klopp / Edwards (before he departs) find a couple of solid midfielders who are not made of glass, who are an upgrade on what we have. Preferably in January because the players we currently have are not able to stay fit and healthy for any reasonable length of time.

I agree, as I said 523 is the same as 343, just depends where the FBs are. It just means 3 central defenders
