I don't understand what's going on, Klopp wants to keep him, he has been, if I am not mistaken the most used player in the squad, we don't have lots of money to spend and we have apparently not offered him a contract, what message of loyalty is this sending to other players, who would even wish to think of loyalty to the club.

Now, someone can say he is too greedy, but why another team will want to offer him wages we cannot offer, I don't even think Barca is in the frame anymore because I would be surprised if Koeman stays. The only thing I can think of is the duration of tge new contract, but again, why would another club give him better, it's not like he has been warming our bench and we would better spend the money in another position than replace him, Curtis is not even a straight replacement, I mean Wij has always started. I can only hope Klopp had his say, it looks like he really loves him.

hard to see him staying after the tribute yesterday. that itself was kind of overdone. Gini deserves his plaudits but that kind of tribute is usually done for the likes of Gerrard, Hyypia or Aguero at City?

Common, are you saying Aguero's tribute was the same? My problem is that to replace him will cost at least 40m, so unless Klopp has decided to stay put with his other midfielders, I don't understand this move. Milner will play even less and Keita might leave as well. We should have kept him and spend the money elsewhere

Yeah I've said all season this is an odd one. I don't get it.

This season above all seasons showed that having depth is vital, Man City prevailed comfortably because of this. Having players like the versatile Fernandinho to slot in when needed was a contributory factor.

Gini is versatile and has a good 4 to 5 years left in him. He has played everywhere on the field for us bar Goalkeeper and played much of our injury hit season, filling in chunks as Captain. It's non-sensical to believe we do not need him considering he has been an ever present in Klopp's team and not just a bench warmer for the time Klopp has been Manager.

This does not add up

And I don’t begrudge him the tribute yesterday

I don't understand this one bit. Gini is a spine player and extremely important to our team. He was sitting on the same wages we signed him with while being the most consistent midfielder. I don't remember him getting Injured at all so he was always available for selection. The club has given contract renewals to most of our squad. Klopp also changed his position and made him put a lot of miles on his legs but he kept going. I don't blame him for leaving because he can double his wages elsewhere but I'm just scratching my head with this decision.

We clearly don’t know the full picture of what is going on here. FSG are very smart people and they don’t make nonsensical decisions. Neither does Klopp.

It could be that Gini just wants a new adventure. Maybe live in another country.
