So I'm seeing reports that Michael Edwards is busy in the background at the moment trying to offload players. Xheridan Shaqiri was left out of last night's matchday squad for the League Cup game v Arsenal on the orders of Edwards, signalling the probability that he will be gone by the transfer window close.

Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic are still on the transfer list and Edwards is considering bids for both players. Rhian Brewster is on his way to Sheff Utd in a shrewd bit of business for 23.5m with a buy back option.

So at least 4 players could be gone in this window with the possibility of more should previous interest in Origi from clubs come to fruition.

So with that many players gone should we be looking to bring any more players in?

My opinion would be to upgrade our backup Goalkeeper as a priority. We lost to Atletico last season in the CL because of Adrian's mistakes and had we had a better option in Alisson's absence, I truly believe we could have retained our CL title.

I've not been shy in suggesting one time England No 1 Jack Butland who is only 27 and is available for less than 10m. His demise has come from an awful Stoke defence and not from his inabilities.

So if we are to bring in more players, what position and who?

I would like a CB who doesn't get injured constantly, we have been recently linked with Shalke CB Ozan Kabak, he's 20, so would be an FSG type buy at around £25 million, but Rhys Williams also looks good in recent games at a similar age, so maybe he can be promoted to 4th CB?

I cannot see us bring in a GK, I thought Adreian had a good game last night, we also brought in the new Brazil GK last week, so maybe he should be given a go, but he is young.

I would be surprised if we bought, I can see the money coming in used to pay for the 3 players we have already signed this window.

Adrian will be 34 in January... you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Yes Goalkeepers have a longer playing career, however Adrian is not the standard we require and we should upgrade his position as a priority.

We shouldn't sell anyone else with the possibility we will lose squad and 1st team players to Covid this season.

We saw vs Arsenal in the league cup that when we make 8 changes our team is very weak.

Cant see a lot of top gk wanting to be the understudy of Alisson

Another dog of a game by Adrian...we can't trust him anymore he could cost us the league this season just like he cost us in the CL last season. Alisson does get injured more than most Top GoalKeepers and we need a reliable understudy...Adrian is not it!

Interesting that there is a separate domestic transfer window that I was not aware of:

In addition, the Premier League have said that following consultation with the English Football League, a domestic-only window will also be added from October 5 and close on October 16.

Transfers between Premier League clubs will not be able to occur during this period, but top-flight sides can trade with EFL clubs and loan or sign players permanently.

So we could still would be able to try and get Butland from Stoke in, up until the 16th October.

knee jerk reaction perhaps but we seriously need to relook at Adrian and Gomez upgrades...

I don't see the 'keeper situation as a knee jerk reaction.

What if Adrian should get injured or catch the Covid 19 now?

We haven't even got a proper 3:rd 'keeper in the squad in the first place atm.

We need to sign one now, that's for sure. Or even better - a new 2:nd choice 'keeper to replace Adrian who can be transported down to 3:rd choice.

Not knee jerk, as it is not the first time and probably not the last time Adrian has made a mistake and Gomez struggles every now and then, he is a Lovren with pace. On top of that Alison, Gomez and Matip are very injury prone. A bot late in the window to do good deals for Edwards though.
