The handball against Spurs just now was a disgrace. Couldn't have happened to a nicer manager though.

Yesterday, Roy said something like 'how have we allowed this to happen to our game'.... so it does seem a bit bonkers. Having said that, it sounds just like so many other things.... Brexit, Covid wave2, Boris Johnson as PM, our world beating test and track system. It's as if we as a nation have developed collective mad cow disease, no?

I think I am in favour of VAR albeit it needs to evolve. But this handball rule I just dont get at all

I reckon it's not as bad as it sounds or seems... there is a logic to it. It takes away the arguments about intent and prevents a team gaining an attacking or defensive advantage by the use of a hand/arm, even if accidental, under certain circumstances.

I think I am in favour of VAR albeit it needs to evolve. But this handball rule I just dont get at all Highly debatable today, was the hand in the natural position or not? I think it was when someone jumps. The Maupay one was the right call though. And it's not VAR that decided but the ref after watching closely.

I think football is generally better with VAR, it gets to the truth of if something happened or not, handball/offside etc.
The problem is you need to use some common sense with that information, if the player intentionally blocks the ball with his hands, by spreading them, making himself bigger, it's a penalty, like the one Utd got last night, but the Tottenham one was just because he jumped and was not facing the ball, so he was not intentionally trying to stop the ball, so no penalty for me, even if it was funny it was Mourinho.
I prefer the game refs are checking on the screens now as well, rather than leaving it to the VAR team who could be 100's miles away.

Yep, any mistake is made by the ref and they sometimes do it even after checking with the assistance of the video, but, most of the time they get it right. So, VAR cannot be blamed.

I am ok with them throwing a blanket over all things handball as that will minimize mistakes whether intentional or not, but it is still inconsistent even with VAR in place, Chelsea's 3rd goal hit the hand of their player before they scored so if they want to eliminate intent, no intent that goal should not have stood.
