I've never seen anyone bring this up not here or anywhere else but imo signing a better back up goalkeeper is just as important as signing another CB. I honestly believe we should have been in the champions league tournament in Lisbon and we could of gotten close or won the european cup again but he made the errors when we were leading 2 nil and winning on aggregate. He saved a penalty in the super cup and then rod his luck to the starting 11 when Ali got injured but he made a number of high profile mistakes that led to goals. Even if Ali stays healthy I assume Klopp will play this guy in cups and I am pretty sure he will make more errors that will knock us out of competitions. If Ali gets injured we will lose more points with this goalkeeper in goal.
Before the window I pointed out we need a player for each position, striker, midfielder, cb, and goalie. We have made the right additions to the squad and hopefully we add a CB soon but I think we need to strengthen with a solid goalkeeper even if it is on loan.

I think Adrian did about as good as you can expect a second choice keeper to do last season. He played about 11 league games if I’m not mistaken. We won all 11. He made some crucial saves during those games. Yeah he makes mistakes. He isn’t Allison, but even ali makes mistakes. I honestly don’t think gk is a priority position worth spending significantly on. There are plenty of pl clubs who would take Adrian as their number 1 and be better for it. And even behind him we’ve got kelleher who is a well regarded young keeper. He cost us the CL no doubt about it. But sometimes that happens. We were unlucky with Ali being injured as often as he was, most seasons your first choice keeper won’t miss that many games usually.

We got knocked out of the CL because Alisson was out injured, but we also did not take our chances in the game, so not all Adrian's fault.
Most reserve GK do not play much, they usually get the domestic cup games at best, having the first choice GK out like we had with Alisson is fairly unusual, so to get a reserve GK who could be a regular first choice GK is difficult, as they know they might not play much, Adrian is a good GK, Alisson is better, that is why he is one of the best GK in the world, we will struggle to get a reserve GK better than Adrian while Alisson is number 1.

The other option would be too have 2 average 1st team goalkeepers.
Mignolet and Karius, I prefer to have Allison and Adrian for backup.
I rate Adrian higher than Migs and Karius anyway.

The West Ham fans did warn us about Adrian's frailties - can play great in some games but can bottle it with stupid mistakes in the most important of games.
Agreed, Adrian is a weakness and is no better than Migs or Karius who all make the same mistakes and whose confidence gets shot when they do/did make mistakes.
I'd go rescue Jack Butland from his Stoke nightmare who is said to be on offer for about 8 to 10m now. He's still only 27 and was the England number 1 not so long ago. Butland has suffered with having to play behind crap defenders which has knocked his confidence. He'd be a very good backup for Alisson at a cheap price...But for gawd's sake sh...itcan our Goalkeeping Coach who is a big reason none of our Goalkeepers have improved under him, in his time with us. Alisson was already the real deal and I'd rather think he puts up with Achterberg than actually listens and learns from him.

We can’t expect to throw Kelleher in or the new 17 year old kid and expect it to be any different from Adrian.
Sell Adrian and Karius and bring in Butland.
