You don't have to be english to be homegrown, Pedro Chirevilla was homegrown, as long as they are trained in England 3 years before their 21st birthday they are eligible

We have just signed Kostas for £12 million, this is all part of transfer negotiations, we may have been using Lewis to drive down Kosta's price/availability.
I suspect we could have bought either player, as the fee's are similar, so we decided we wanted Kostas, no doubt Norwich saw £££'s when we came in for Lewis, they probably realise after trying to play us that the price Newcastle have offered is about the best they will get in the current market.
I dont agree. Our first choice was Lewis but they wanted 20m. We went on Kostas because he was cheaper. As for Norwich, they realised they will not get anywhere near to 20m. But it sounds as though they just have. £15m rising to £20m is still potentially £20m. £10m is obviously not. Who else has a back up left back at £20m?

But seeing as Jamal IS English and Tsimikas is over 18 it’s an irrelevant point no? What is more relevant is that we are consistently buying talented youngsters around the 16-18 age range every year specifically to take advantage of this rule. Whether any of them develop into good enough players to start in our team remains to be seen (maybe a couple like Trent might emerge), they have a very very good chance of returning a hefty resale value if we were to sell them on anyways, merely for the fact that they’d qualify as ‘homegrown’ when they reach 21. Someone like Van Den Berg might turn into a good to average premier league standard CB who if wasn’t homegrown you might pick up for say 15 million, because he’s homegrown you’d probably look to sell him to another prem club (Like we did with solanke to Bournemouth) for say 30 million.

Same with agents I agree about good business, we made a bid, it wasn't accepted, so we bought someone else, that's our choice, It is not low balling if you offer what you think a player is worth, the selling club have their valuation, it was obviously so far apart there was no real chance of negotiation. A few years ago we appeared to be paying crazy prices for the likes of Downing & Carroll etc, I prefer we are being stronger and not paying through the nose as we are Liverpool FC, we have shown we will walk away if we feel the deal is not right, we did the same with Alisson, then Roma dropped their value so we bought him, it's sensible business negotiation.
