Newcastle to sign Jamal Lewis for 15million rising to 20million. It's takes the biscuit when Newcastle, owned by Mike Ashley, and far more stingy on transfers than us are prepared to pay more than FSG would for Jamal Lewis. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/5404063015million is a fair price for the lad, it just shows how u underfunded we as a club are under FSG.

We have just signed Kostas for £12 million, this is all part of transfer negotiations, we may have been using Lewis to drive down Kosta's price/availability.
I suspect we could have bought either player, as the fee's are similar, so we decided we wanted Kostas, no doubt Norwich saw £££'s when we came in for Lewis, they probably realise after trying to play us that the price Newcastle have offered is about the best they will get in the current market.

Tsimikas is a better player but not by much. It would have been worth going for lewis though just for the whole 'homegrown' thing. I'm guessing thats having more of a bearing on transfers than we're being led to believe.

We paid £11.8m and Lewis is going to rise to £20m. Another thing we have to take into consideration is this signing for us was for a back up player. At Newcastle he will be straight into the first team.

Another consideration is that Tsimikas represents a better sell on value at a club challenging for honours than a player with a team that will probably finish mid table at best.

Again, you're all missing the point. Lewis is a homegrown player meaning he's better for our books. Another reason why we're looking to sell Gini on (apart from the contract situation) rather than a less productive member of the squad such as Ox, is because Ox is an English player. I believe you need to register a minimum of 8 English or 'home grown' players and then 17 none homegrown. If you dont register 8 homegrown you get penalised by having your squad eligibility go from 25 to 23. This is why English players are at a premium in the PL. Lewis might not be as good now, but if we developed him, got him CL and top level experience. We could have easily sold him on for a very tidy profit. As it stands I'm not too bothered as I believe Tsimikas is a great bit of business.

I dont agree. Our first choice was Lewis but they wanted 20m. We went on Kostas because he was cheaper. As for Norwich, they realised they will not get anywhere near to 20m.
