Agree with you on that... I think if you want to be successful you have to have spend something. But we have spent money and spent it very well... OK I agree with you we haven't flashed the cash like other clubs.

The flip side though is that simply just spending money for the sake of it does not mean you will be successful. Again I point to teams that have spent loads of money and don't look much better than what they were 5 years ago.

The reason why FSG went for Klopp is because of his way of working. We can't compete with City and Chelsea financially and so have found a different way by building a team over a number of years, being patient and building a world class backroom staff, the whole culture of the club has massively changed in FSG/Klopps time. I'm just saying that the way we operate is different to just going out and spending money for the sake of it.

Having said all that as I mentioned before I am starting to get worried for this window in particular, I think if we don't get another quality addition in midfield we have gone backwards.

I dont think anybody seriously thinks that we can compete with City and Chelsea, however, we have the 13th or 14th net spend over the last five years and even Arsenal are spending more than us. They should be more impacted than us because of a bigger shortfall with a bigger stadium than us and higher usual ticket prices. On top of that our revenues have been much higher than them, they have even missed CL.

If you discount City and Chelsea and just look at Spurs, Man Utd, Arsenal, Wolves, even Villa and Leeds outspent us.

We have greater sponsorship deals, money from TV, transfer money in, than any of those teams.

I think the owners have been proven justified last season in not spending, but really you can only get away with that maybe once/twice. Asking the team to go again after 2 years of no fresh injection of quality is a big ask. But honestly. The way we’ve been working is to maximise what we can our of a relatively small squad at the expense of the cup competitions which, given our situation at the time I don’t think anyone could ever complain about. That has seen us climb to the mountain top. But now surely that we’ve reached the peak, are generating a much higher turn over the tactics should now change? And be focused on maintaining. We don’t have to spend 100 million a window. But 1 world class addition at the expense of say 40 - 50 a year would be enough. Injecting quality into the squad could even allow us to compete on all 4 fronts. I just don’t understand the directions or decisions. It just smacks of lacking ambition.

Klopp has stated he likes a smaller squad, so he can manage the players better, he doesn't want a Chelsea or City situation with 7 forwards and some players hardly getting games sat around on big money, I think he is happy to replace like for like, which is what it looks like we are doing for Gini for Thiago.

If suddenly FSG gave Klopp a £250 million transfer budget, I doubt he would go out and buy 5 * £50 million superstars, that is not how he operates, he likes to develop players and not disrupt his squad/team, teams like Chelsea have spent allot of money, lets see if the can integrate them, and how some of the young players like Tammy Abraham, Mount and Hudson-Odoi react to being dropped for new 'star names'.

We should have money from our recent success, I am sure we have, but FSG are keeping it within the club to deal with whatever happens in the next few years, none of us know what's going to happen in the next year, with football stadiums/competitions/TV, at the moment lock downs are happening all over the country and international quarantines are being lifted/applied on a week by week basis, so who knows.

I do think we need to bring players in, but I am happy for Klopp to make the call with his team on when and who, as long as Klopp is getting what he wants and FSG are backing him, thats what we need.

Klopp's not making the call FSG are. Klopp tried to sign an attacker in Werner, we couldn't pull it off. So that would suggest that Klopp wants an attacker. If he doesn't sign one then that is because he is not been given the funds. Not that he has suddenly changed his mind and does not want an attacking forward.

Our front 3 desperately need competition. The drop off in attack once a bench player is too big for supposedly one of the biggest clubs in the world

I don't think anyone at Villa is on over £50k a week. All our players are on £70k or more. Half a dozen or so on £150k a week or more. That is a lot of money every week. We earn a lot more than Villa, Wolves, Everton, Leeds etc. etc. but my God we spend a lot more too.

I don't know what people want here. Do we want to be saddled with some players to pad the squad out and keep us ticking over or do we hold back and get the big targets when they become available at a good price?

Any player coming to Liverpool will want £100k a week as a minimum simply because that is what everybody else is on. Wijnaldum however is on £70k a week. Of course he wants a better deal when he sees Shaqiri on £80k and the departed Lovren on £90k a week.

I am guessing we are probably trying to get Wijnaldum on a 3 year contract paying him the same wages he is on now. He would be 32 at the end of that. He probably wants a 4 yr deal around £120k a week. If we get Alcantara we will probably see him on a 3 or 4 year contract of £100k a week. This is a lot of money for someone who would not command a future transfer fee and will cost us £25m before he kicks a ball for us.

We could get him free next summer on a 3 yr contract of £120k a week and that would still be a lot less than shelling out £25m to buy him.

To be able to get players like VVD and Alisson we have relied on a history of bargain buys as well as the Coutinho money.

At some point we will have to sell top players to bring top players in. We don't have £100m to splash out on Sancho or £200m for Mbappe without selling one of our top players.

Yes we dont have 100m for Sancho and better not even mention Mbappe, but we must have had 50m and cant see us getting much better bargains for Werner at that price. Now we dont even have 26m apparently. As for the wages, Lallana has gone and if we buy Tiago, we will sell Gini so as not to lose on a free, so that's also sorted. We are operating as a mid table team and as such shouldn't expect to be champions, if we are, it would be just above expectations.

Any talk of Sancho or Mbappe is hilarious, unless we’ve sold a player for 100m, when have you ever seen us paying that much? Any talk of those players is none sense.

We apparently don’t have the money for Werner, so where will we get the money for those players?

Honestly, you can forget about Thiago as well, looks like he wants to stay at Bayern.

Yep. Anyway, I am sure FSG is saying that with the margin of 18 pts we had, no team could catch us, so no need to spend. Who could deny that?

Since Klopp came it has always been about the right players with the right attitude for our club. Yes Werner would have been a good but was there something a little "wrong" with this one?

Salah Firmino, VVD all on big wages. They earned that through performances with us. They didn't suddenly get £180k a week shoved under their noses on day one.

So had we signed Werner and he scored goals for us where would we go with the next contract at 27 to 31 years old. £250k a week? £300k a week? Lose the player for nothing? At 27?

Yes it will be one in and one out on the big names but we have to remember those big names have done the job for us.
