How is the squad getting stronger, who would replace VVD or Salah if they are on a long term injury?

I believe we have young players who are hungry for this and who are not without ability. We added Minamino that strengthened the squad and the performances of some of our youngsters in that game v Everton show we have players who can do a job.

Who would replace Laporte and De Bruyne, who would replace Aguero? The answers are not in that oh so deep City squad because if they were then they would not be 23 points behind us.

Nobody could replace VVD or Salah. I have had the argument before on here about no club in the world having 4 top class forwards so we have Origi. This season is different because of African cup of Nations and we are losing up to 3 players for that.

I think people underestimated the loss of Alisson and what happened. It wasn't that Adrian was poor at the start of the season it was the way the team adapted to not always having him there to cover for them. This was the same for going forwards. Adrian does not have that amazing distribution that we have come to expect from Alisson.

An injury to Henderson is probably more crucial than an injury to Salah. VVD would be a huge miss but the work ethic of the players is that they adapt and probably the best example was v Barcelona last season. City have a deep squad but do not have the leadership since Kompany went.

I think what you are asking for is what City have in a full team of replacements but I would rather have a team of ambition rather than a team of mercenaries.

Some players are irreplaceable, VvD is one of them, you cannot have a player of his quality waiting to come in as cover, so you have players who can cover who will never be as good, I actually think Fabinho would be the best cover for him.

Same with the front 3, we will struggle to bring in a player who can just replace one of them, Origi has tried and is just not good enough, he has his own attributes and has scored some great goals for us, like CL semi final & final, but no one wants to see him playing 20+ games a season for us. I think Klopp will use Mimamino more next season now he has settled in, also Jones will come in for more games, I'm not sure on Brwester, but he's had allot of experience in the EPL and scored goals, so he may play more next season for us, Klopp and the coaches rate him highly.

No we cannot have a cover at centre back as good as VVD but we can definitely get someone better than Matip and Gomez who would be less injury prone. If Klopp was looking forward to bring Werner, we definitely need one player of that calibre, unless we just take a chance and hope no long term injuries as we had this season. I have a feeling our owners would prefer to take a chance though we will most probably have the best financial results this season as well

I think we just need a striker to cover the loss of Mane and Salah.

Adama Traore from Wolves would be my choice.

What if we lose VVD or even Robertson, I think we need a left footed top centre back as well

Agreed we need a versatile defender able to cover for Robertson and also the half backs. And that's in addition to similar quality cover for the front three, in not convinced that Mimamino or Origi will step up sufficiently.

It's going to be hard to win it a second time but I see City as the only challengers

Totally agree ! Also you have to think if City are not in Europe it will be a big leveller. But I stand by my 90 points. We may need to build our squad depth from within. There is enough there to win it again. Not by as many points but then again I don't think anyone will tear it apart like this again for a while.

?

We have Matip, Gomez, Wilson, Origi. These are not the sexy names you want to hear.

Who do City use when De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Sterling or Aguero are injured? They use Rodri, Foden, Mahrez and Jesus. Yes these are sexy names by comparison to the ones we use. But the truth is these guys play and City still lose games.

So you want a top quality replacement for VVD, Salah, Robertson and Mane? You want 4 world class players to step in and for the adjustment to be seamless? For this you would need Koulibaly, Adama Traore, Chilwell and Sancho. On a good day you might get all 4 for £250m.

Good luck with that.

Let's agree first that the City players you have named are not only sexy names but much better than our bench. And no, I dont want 4 players, I want 2, one in defence because from experience we know that both Gomez and Matip will miss games and without VVD we are in big trouble (I think we can agree that we dont want Lovren playing), therefore we need a central defender who can also play on the left (a bit like Laporte) and one attacker, Werner would have been perfect as he can play across the 3 attacking positions, now we need to find someone else.
