Interesting from ex-Liverpool Echo Reporter - James Pearce

Sign Werner for £50m? It’s not that simple – and Liverpool will not gamble

Financial reality of COVID-19 for #LFC & impact on transfer plans.

No matchday £ expected into 2021

Media £ dropping due to TV rebates

Commercial £ hit by uncertainty over sponsors/retail

No lucrative friendlies/lower offers for fringe stars

Lots saying ‘but what about the big Nike deal?’ It’s worth a base fee of £30m per year (lower than current NB contract) - big attraction was getting 20% of sales. But just how profitable that is largely relies on shops being open/busy globally & people having ££ to spend

Discussions were ongoing last I heard. Being done on a club by club basis rather than EPL wide. LFC executive staff took a voluntary 25% cut a while back.

Will be interesting to see how the transfer market will go this summer, allot of European teams rely on transfers form PL, so they will be desperate to sell and bring money in due to the current financial situation, there could be a few fire sales, with reduced fee's.

Clubs will also look at their PR, with clubs talking of cutbacks and furloughing/redundant staff, it wouldn't be received well by the public if they then went out and spent £50+ million on a player !!! similar with contract demands by players, agents/players may have to reduce their demands.

I cannot see the £100+ million transfers for the likes of Sancho & Sane going through at those prices now, selling clubs will have to reduce fee's at the top end if they want to sell.
