Virgil Van Dijk has lost 5 league games since he signed for Liverpool.

Dejan Lovren was his partner in 4 of those.

Now I'm not saying he is to blame. But I am 100% insinuating that he is to blame.

Whole team had an off day but when you're confident in the players around you. It makes a difference. Lovren. Like mignolet should have been bombed out years ago. The Spurs game should have been his last ever game. If Gomez is not available. Then Matip should play. If not Matip then Hoever. Or Van Den Berg. Or Fabinho. Bring Nat Phillips back. F**k it. Jurgen himself could play. Anyone but Lovren. I text my brother as soon as I saw the line up and said we will lose this.

Yeah I know what you mean. VVD had a bit of an off day. He cannot carry Lovren in the same way that he might carry Matip or Gomez. That is probably unfair on those two as they have both shown in their own right how good they are. I think if VVD was missing those 2 would keep out most teams.

The other stat to remember is we only lost one game last season at City. Aguero turned Lovren in the box and scored. So Lovren has played in our last 2 league defeats. Doesn't look good does it?

Yesterday up against Deeney he got mugged off twice leading to goals in the same way that he did against Kane and Lukaku the season before last. I really hope he never plays for us again although I suspect he will line up in the cup v Chelsea.

I don't like singling out one player for criticism but he simply is not up to the standard we require. His positional play is awful most of the time. He doesn't seem to know where to be when the full backs have gone forward and his passing is telegraphed and slow. Like other players he should improve for playing alongside VVD but he is targeted by opposing teams far too successfully.

Sky had Deeney on the pitch with John Barnes and Jamie Redknapp and he was saying how Lovren was just fighting him the whole game rather than concentrating on the ball. Look at that defeat at City last season, the losses at Spurs and Man U the year before. We have seen it all before. Putting him in the team is like giving the opposition a goal head start.

Please get rid. For free if necessary.

He should never play for the club again honestly, he looks so nervous and unnatural that he makes me believe he isn't a footballer. Should be the first one to go in the summer.

All had an off day, even the front three. Lovren's not at the level required, even Stevie Wonder can see that. It's all about how we bounce back against Bournemouth now.

As much as I have disliked Lovren in the past, yesterday's game he wasn't at fault for anything in particular? Seems a little unfair sharpening your pitchforks and lighting your torches!

We've been unblanced for a few games now, yesterday was no different, aided by some partisan refereeing.

Wasnt at fault, what game were you watching? He was playing Deeney all the time rather than the ball which cost us the first goal at least. But I agree that we have been lucky to win a number of times this season

Lovren was wrestling Deeney rather than playing football and reading the game, he does that allot, he doesn't have much game sense and prefers a battle than playing positional football and reading the game, how often does VvD need to wrestle an opponent? not often, he reads the play and plays the ball, the best defenders do. You could hear what Deeney thought after the game, when he commented on targeting Lovren as he knew he would try and battle him, and Deeney knew he would win that battle.

What I do not understand is why was Lovren playing if Matip is fit? Matip was very good at the end of last season and became second or third choice CB, based on where you place Gomez, he is a better partner for VvD, so it doesn't make sense why he played Lovren rather than Matip?

I'm not purely blaming Lovren for the defeat, the whole team looked out of sorts, but I think the defence was definitely worrying with Lovren in there, they knew he needed covering and was liable to make a mistake.

Lovren was at fault or at best very instrumental in 2 of their goals. His job is to defend. He doesn't do it. He shouldn't be here.

I wonder if we might already be sunning ourselves in Bali or somewhere? I know Klopp keeps trying to focus them but they sure as hell weren't focused yesterday, they to a man, looked to be anywhere other than on that hornets nest of a pitch.
I also never want to see Lovern in red or white or black ever again, unless he's officiating at a wedding or a sacrificial offering to the gods of tomfoolery.
