So far they have been banned from the CL for 2 years.

That will no doubt be reduced to 1 year upon appeal.

I can see the Premier league deducting 10 points this season, which is pointless as they are not in the CL next year.

I think the correct punishment should be.

1 year ban from CL.
3 season transfer ban.
All trophies won while this was going on should be lost.
Therefore last season we were the Premier league winners.

Depends how long they've been presenting cooked financials tbh, I see 2012 to 2016 overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to Uefa. Also adding that the club "failed to cooperate in the investigation".

How many seasons is that, which ones does it take in...2011/12, 12/13, 13/14, 14/15, 15/16, 16/17 it's at least 4 seasons of cooked books, potentially 6 seasons?

Surely they should get deducted points for each season they cooked the books?

Man City ban timeline: From Der Spiegel claims to European club competition ban

Uefa has handed Manchester City a two-season European club competition ban and a 30m euros (£25m) fine after it found the club guilty of committing "serious breaches" of the governing body's club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

Below is a timeline of events:

5 November, 2018: German publication Der Spiegel claims Manchester City and their sponsors manipulated contracts to circumvent Uefa's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. The German news magazine says the club allegedly misled Uefa by not revealing they had directed money to the club from Abu Dhabi owner Sheikh Mansour via sponsors linked to him, and artificially inflated the value of their commercial income to help meet FFP rules requiring clubs to break even. City say they will not be commenting on the claims.

March 2019: Uefa begins investigating the club for potential breaches of its FFP regulations. It says: "The investigation will focus on several alleged violations of FFP that were recently made public in various media outlets."

13 May, 2019: The New York Times reports that members of the investigatory chamber of Uefa's financial watchdog - the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), which is effectively the 'prosecution' in this process - were pushing for expulsion from the Champions League for at least one season.

16 May, 2019: City say they are "disappointed, but regrettably not surprised" after being referred to Uefa's financial control body adjudicatory chamber.

June 2019: City file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas). They challenge Uefa's decision to refer them to its financial watchdog, the CFCB, which would decide on any punishment.

November 2019: City fail in an initial bid to have Cas halt Uefa's investigation.

12 February, 2020: Cas publishes documents that show City sought damages from Uefa for what they alleged were "unlawful" leaks to the media with regards to an inquiry into possible FFP breaches. The documents also show senior Uefa official Yves Leterme had dismissed the club's claims, stating they were "groundless" and "unacceptable in tone".

14 February, 2020: City are banned from European club competition for the next two seasons after being found to have committed "serious breaches" of Uefa's club licensing and financial fair play regulations. The Premier League champions say they are "disappointed but not surprised" by the "prejudicial" decision and will appeal.

Whilst that would be the right thing to do I don't think it will happen. If it does they would also surely be demoted to League 2 because the scale they have done this on is fukking enormous. It goes back to 2012 so that would be 4 titles lost. Two would go to us and 2 to United. A PL win this season puts us one behind still so nothing much changes there.

It also won't happen because the missed opportunities to play in European competition for other clubs would see them wanting to take City to court for loss of revenue. But if this goes the distance there would forever be an asterisk next to their name in the record books.

Relegation. I know people will not agree but to me this is just as serious as match fixing and Juventus were relegated and even stripped of their titles in that time frame. They used the funds to buy world class players and broke records with those players. It's a harsh punishment but the governing bodies need to come hard on them.

As serious as match fixing, really? No need to dream, the types of punishment is already defined in FFP rules, you might wish for more but the rules are the rules and so are the set punishment.

Doesn't look like they managed to buy their way out with the UEFA, did they?
