Some interesting thoughts and suggestions. I was thinking specifically about the 2nd half of this season in terms of whether we need should add cover, particularly given the position we're in. If we were to lose VVD and messed things up because we didn't even try to plug the gap we'd feel sick.

Stick to the buy young, buy value policy? Or gamble on proven experience and quality in an attempt to secure the title this season?

On the other hand... maybe we should keep faith in Gomez, Lovren, VVD, Matip and Hendo?

We can buy young and buy quality and still add cover to the squad now, like we have with Minamino.

As we have the transfer Window opening in just over a week, we have about 6 weeks before it closes, so I guess KLopp can assess who's back and fit, then decide who we need to bring in, if Fab comes back and either Matip or Lovren are fit, we probably don't need to move for a CB.

We have got ourselves in such a good position, that it would be crazy not to bring someone in to protect that if required.

It would be ideal if we could find a defender to cover the whole defence line.

A player like Vertonghen can play fb and cb. That's what we need imo.

I'm not saying that he is the right player for us - just that we need that type of player.

We can't afford to buy specialist players just for the sake of cover. We need them to play and rotate over the whole season.

Don't think we need a central midfielder as Fabinho is not injured long term and Keita seems to be available for a longer period as usual. We are however over reliable on VVD with the other 3 CD very injury prone and Milner cannot play the Robertson's game given his age, so ideally we need to fill up those 2 positions, especially a good CD to play along VVD with Gomez to rotate. I think Lovren should be sold if we consider having too many CD, anyway he was about to in the summer. LB we could go with somebody having potential but already playing regularly even in the championship

I honestly don't see us buying a cb, Matip is returning soon, fabinho will return late January or early February and Lovren won't be long behind. I understand the idea that we will bring someone in for the future but Klopp has said many times he won't sign a player just for the sake of it.

I hate the thought of us doing a Fernandinho to Fabinho...play him in his best position everytime. I hate the swiss army knife approach of making specialist players into utility players. We had to make do for decades and now we are at the pinnacle looking down on everyone. Fabinho has no real superiors to his DM role, why change a very good thing?

We will only use Fab at CB if there’s no other option. We have 4 senior CB’s and we’d be mighty unlucky to need Fab there. I think we do need a new CB for Lovren or Matip but I don’t see it happening in January.

We might if there is a hot bargain somewhere, that might be me hoping though.

Since this January transfer thread hasn't been updated since 23/12/19, I presume everyone is happy with the squad? maybe if we would have lost a few games over the Xmas games congestion fans would have been demanding reinforcements for the run in?

There is very little speculation for January signings, so it looks like our business is done with Minamino, we are getting key players back from Injury.

Does everyone feel confident with the squad we have for the run in? any last minute buys needed?
