Because no other Liverpool team got 97 points and lost only one game in the prem all season whilst also winning the champions league after coming back from 3-0 down against a team with the best player in history in it. With two of our best players also out. That’s why. No other team in our history have managed to get that many points. It’s simple statistics. Pep said that he was up against the greatest Liverpool team ever, and he was right. As much as we idolise and worship the great Liverpool teams of the past, if they played against this Liverpool team, even in their prime, they’d get spanked 5-0. Diet/Health/Training/Fitness levels have changed so much, I do not think you could have teams from different era's playing each other to assess, the game has also changed, tackles allowed in the 80's would be immediate red cards now. I think most Liverpool fans would agree the current team is one of the great teams of our history, if it was not for a rival which is a play thing of a country with unlimited resources, we would be completely dominant, last year we would have won the PL by 25 points and the CL. The thing that amazes me is that Klopp has built a team to achieve this in 3.5 years, he didn't take over a successful team/squad, he has lost some of his best players along the way and has been buying wisely and not spent fortunes like his rivals have. Pep took over a team that had won the PL twice and a few FA Cups in recent years, with the owners giving him whatever he wanted while he already had a title winning squad, that makes it all the more amazing what Klopp achieved while Pep had that.

We had to rely on a mistake by Lloris,a header by Origi against Newcastle and a brilliant goal by Salah against Southampton.
Not to mention a Daniel Sturridge fantastic goal against Chelsea. Pickfords mistake at Everton?
That would have been 11 points dropped quite easily. This has been pointed out before by other forum members. Yeah, this is also irrelevant. City had to rely on Spurs missing sitters against them and kompany scoring a wonder goal against leicester, something which he has never done before. The also had to rely on a goal line clearance against us not being a goal by MM. It's swings and round abouts over the course of the season and at the end of the day it doesnt matter. 97 points and ONE LOSS cant be argued with.

Completely agree. Again if it wasnt for saudi FC we would have absolutely walked the league last year and any year previous on top of winning the CL. Something which is a lot harder to do in the modern era. There wouldnt be any question in anyones mind how this team ranks.

That would have been 11 points dropped quite easily. This has been pointed out before by other forum members. And City had to rely on pieces of luck for some of their results, the Lloris mistake was caused by pressure put on him by Liverpool players, same with Pickfords, so are they just mistakes, or pressure from Liverpool players causing a mistake? The Mane v City goal would have been given if it wasn't for goal line technology, every replay showed it went in, even though technology proved it didn't. We were unlucky the weather turned bad the night we played Leicester at Anfield, I am sure we would have won that game if it wasn't for the icy pitch, helping Leicester get a draw. The fact is either team could have won the PL last year and they would have deserved it, they were so close to each other and so far above the rest of the PL.

Did City not rely on others mistakes, last minute goals, cracking goals and all the other stuff you mentioned that is all part of football? Just pointless.

That would have been 11 points dropped quite easily. This has been pointed out before by other forum members. City had to rely on a crazy clearance off the line, mane missing a sitter, a freak Kompany wonder goal and several other things like that. Good teams force luck to happen. You might get lucky and finish 4 or 5 points above your station. No one flukes 97 points. We lost one game all season last year. We're bloody good.

Yes -best comeback team in the world.
I was just responding to some hornblower who thinks we are the best Liverpool team of all time right now.
Hopefully it turns out that way.

I dont think any other liverpool team have ever won 97 points and lost only the one game. In any other era, Liverpool would have won the league and absolutely left every other Liverpool past team in the dust. Like I said. It is only Saudi FC that stand in our way. If they werent a reality there would be no question that this Liverpool team would be considered the best ever stats and points alone. What I am saying is you cannot take only one season under consideration, we are comparing with a team/s which dominated competitions for years a bit like Barca did and before that RM and now City is moving in that direction. It all depends over how many years this Liverpool side does it starting with winning the league. The stats that counts when defining teams is the number of trophies won

Yet we can use one game to determine whether Utd have closed the gap on us?
