Despite being dominated in the first half we still managed 4 shots which were half chances wasted by a rusty Salah. Second half we overpowered them and were unlucky to score a winner. Disappointed because I wanted the boys to lift the shield and see them celebrating again but I am happy with the performance.
Back to Back World Champions baby!

Name anyone better in his position right now in world football.. Doesn't mean he cannot improve by passing the ball to somebody better placed instead of hopeful shots, don't you think? Or you think he cannot improve? The question was name anyone better in his position right now in world football? Instead you answer it with 2 rather negative questions. Why don't you answer the question?

I'm not fussed about the outcome or the two half performance, I take this game as part of our preseason preparation, so it's not a big deal. What I'm more concerned about, is whether this first eleven picks can see out this coming season without exhaustion, considering the number of games and the summer exertions in the internationals? That's why I'm so exercised about our inactivity in the market. We desperately need additional backup cover, in quality terms, to provide rest/recovery periods for key players.imo.

A very good all round performance and second half we were fantastic.
We certainly showed yet again how teams should play v City. They got gifted lots of easy wins last 2 seasons by teams trying to keep the score down from minute one. This included last season especially v Everton, Watford, Arsenal and Man U. Top half teams you expect to show up a bit better.
Anyway back to yesterday. The energy was certainly there from Salah and the midfield unit worked well. We are all looking at Origi as part of a front 3 when he is probably better suited as a lone striker or in a front 2. He is a goalscorer and a worker and needs to be more central to be threatening.
There were a couple of times when VVD got sucked forward to make a challenge and the ball broke only for Gomez to read the game perfectly. With Origi and Salah out wide there was no need for the full backs to get forward so they didn't look as effective. They won't be like that at home to Norwich on Friday and Klopp has been very careful not to give them a look at how we will be on Friday night.
De Bruyne was run into the ground by his manager and having had a yellow card earlier could have made a poor decision on tired legs. I was really surprised that Pep left him out there so long. I would have been quite annoyed had Klopp done that to any of our players.
The substitutions were very good. Lallana, Keita, Shaqiri and Ox were all better than I expected. They pressed well and really rattled City. Another day and Stones slips and smashes that ball into the net off the bar. Hopefully the next time it will cost them 3 points.

Yes agree SSO, the way to play City is to go after them and deny them time and space on the ball. However that requires boundless energy and stamina over a long season, not to mention Klopp's training, or should I say running style. If we had more options to rest players with close to equal quality, I'd be a lot more confident of taking on City this season, but looking at all the factors you'd have to put your money on City making it three in a row. That saddens me, especially since we have the resources to bridge the gap in squad quality and are apparently passing it up. That surely questions our ambition, does it not?

When two teams get well over 90 points it is a case of the head to heads making the difference between first and second as it was last season.
As hard as we pressed all season we do need to rely on some of the others to step up and take on City for their own good and ours. As such we can't keep spending money to bridge that gap. They will just spend more.
It is a business and it may just be that we can get targets in January for £20m cheaper than signing now. Especially if their contracts are due to be up next summer. If we are still fighting on 4 fronts I expect us to go into the market then.
Origi showed yesterday he is not the answer as a starter. Not in a front 3 anyway. He offers us something else. What we need is a player who can do it from the start with any 2 from the other 3. Sturridge could not do it. Ox and Shaq are different players and neither of them could do it. We are looking for a unique player of the right age to compete. It probably isn't Werner otherwise we would have signed him by now. Come to think of it if he is the answer surely anybody would have signed him by now?

I think I have heard Klopp say that there is no value in Jan, maybe he's changed his mind but won't hold my breath

Yep and he also said before about not spending big and he went back and did that. Look how that paid off! Champions of Europe BTW.
Now we have clubs trying to copy what we are doing. Signing players younger. Dismissing certain players because of the sell on values.
I think we are doing our own thing. Come January we might be doing our own thing again.
We are not looking for players who are looking for a big pay day and we are not looking for those who want to use us as a stepping stone to sunny Spain.
It's not about the right player and the right time it is also about their attitude to coming on lower wages to start with us leading to a big payday with us than a huge £150k contract from day one with City or Scumchester.
Have a look at other players at other clubs and ask would we pay them £100k + a week to maybe sit on the bench and both player and club be happy about it.

We spend 200m or so last summer, more than anybody else and we go on to win the CL, coincidence you think? I am not saying we have to do the same but definitely need to have a cover for Mane and Firmino with one player preferably instead of sleeping on our laurels/dosh

You obviously do not read posts properly or comprehend what I was saying. You really are a total imbecile. You put your typing finger into gear before starting the car. Go and look in the enough of for your latest errors.
