I for one was underwhelmed when the rumours of Hodgson being our manager started to surface.

But we have seen what the big names do Houllier, Benitez and now Capello for England. Flatter to deceive would sum it up.

Who would have thought Paisley would have had that success at the outset? Appearances are not what it’s about. It’s about knowledge and gaining the respect of the players.

So welcome and good luck Roy and us LFC fans might just have a pleasant surprise ahead you never know.

Let's not set unreasonable expectations, otherwise people will be calling for his head at Christmas.

If he only has between £5m and £12m to spend we will not be in the top 4 next season.

Well said Growler...

I am happy Roy has got the job... he has 'The Liverpool way' about him... cool, calm and dignified.

3 years is a good contract for both sides... I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes about the job... also, if he has £15m budget, he has something to work with. Hopefully he will get all/most of the fees he brings in from sales.

Roy is no fool, if he didn't think he could make his mark, he wouldn't be with us - and I reckon he will focus mainly on The Premier League... about time a manager of ours did!!

Meanwhile, If any player wants to go, then bugger off - and that includes Torres and Gerrard... I'm only interested in players wanting to play for us 110%. To me Mascherano and Benayoun should go, good players but their hearts are not in the Liverpool shirt - not good enough.

YNWA Roy lad...

the best thing about Roy coming is at least we'll know who'll be on the team sheet each game or a good Idea at least!

I liked Rafa, maybe I'm a tad too loyal for my own good but no one can deny his success, only the league proved too much a task, although that said last season aside the points tally from the season before would have won the league in any other season...

...anyway thats by the by, the most frustrating thing about Rafa was his team selections, too much chopping and changing and if a bad result came from it I had to question "why the change?"

Roy Hodgson though tends to stick to his guns with his prefered team selections and I can only feel that will benefit the team.

Welcome Roy, I wasn't sure at first about your impending appointment but now your here the optimism is beginning to bloom.

Gerrard thinks it's a good appointment

Just weird he doesn't say he is looking forward to playing under him.

Who cares what Gerrard thinks I am losing respect for him.

Excellent point well made.
A seemingly quiet unasuming man, bit like Paisley was.
Only a season or two will tell, but I have a good feeling about this man.

Dominic King from The Echo on Twitter: 'Just met Roy Hodgson for the first time. Very nice man, clearly ambitious and absolutely honoured to take over Reds.'
