It seems we will have to wait at least another month for his return.

According to liverpoolfc.com, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed Joe Gomez is still ‘a couple of weeks’ away from full fitness.

The defender sustained a lower leg fracture during the 3-1 win at Burnley on December 5, forcing him to sit out the 10 fixtures that have followed since as he began a rehabilitation programme at Melwood.

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “We have to wait. Obviously it was really unlucky in that situation. The injury is not like Trent or Gini where you know ‘that’s the only thing’. It could have been like that, but then more and more we found out it’s a more serious thing.

“We have to wait, for sure, a couple of weeks. We will see, it is difficult to judge in the moment.

“We thought three weeks ago he would be closer and then we had to make another diagnosis in which we saw that it didn’t work out so far as we wanted, that’s why he is still not in training or running on the pitch.”

Is this just a matter of bad luck or is he fragile and/or injury prone beyond what is the usual norm?

Do we have to have a look at this and get a halfback in that is less injury prone than Matip, Lovren and Gomez?

Can we rely on them looking forwards (and upwards)?

What do you think?

The injuries he’s had at such a young age aren’t good. He should be young enough to fully recover but on the flip side it might stop him getting strong enough and robust enough to stop it from happening again.

Tricky one here but even without his injuries another exoerienced CB wouldn’t hurt. At least then we could fukk Lovren off!

Was hoping he would be back soon, looks like he might miss CL games, which is not good as VvD is out of first leg.

I guess they won't want to rush him back with his injury record, good thing is this is a break from a collision and not related to his previous injuries.

I remember how much Gerrard was out at that age, but we weren't relying on him as we are Gomez. Lovren has to be last choice at this stage.

Fabinho has returned to light training and will be available for the Leicester game. TAA is also training and is trying to make the Leicester game. The Gomez news is not good and does set the alarm bells ringing with his injury history. Klopp can't put his lucky lederhosen on and believe we'll be ok...we need defensive cover!
It's worth a try at getting Cahill from Chelsea on loan.

Cahill was the one I mentioned when Gomez was first injured. It is about having cover first and foremost. But this could turn into more than just a couple of appearances as the injury list stands.

Going out and buying someone as a starting CB is not going to happen in January. I suspect that Klopp is happy that 4 is enough CB's when Fabinho can be added to that to make 5. But With 3 of that 5 either out of just returning it is a no brainer to bring an experienced loan player in now.

The only one to buy would be Alderweireld but if he is not a first choice then we may as well have a loan player who obviously would not be a first choice but could do a more than decent job.

Anything else would be a panic buy and would put untold pressure on that player to perform. There is one more match day before the window closes. I think we will be waiting to see what the gap is come next Weds night before making that decision.

I understand VVD is only ill and Fabinho is training and Bayern is in more than 3 weeks, what have you been drinking?

VVD misses the 1st leg v bayern due to picking up 3 yellows in group stage. I know he is ill at the moment but can't play in that CL game anyway. I think Mr Bo is alluding to the fact we are on very thin ground already with what may be available for the 1st leg.
