To compete in both the EPL and CL. I don't think we have unless we are very lucky with injuries. I think we are ok in the midfield, then if Salah is injured, I think Shaq can do a decent job. However, what if Mane gets injured, not sure Lallana is anywhere near and Shaq is not that great on the left (Keita was tried not very successfully there) especially in Klopp's system and if Firmino is off, can't see Sturridge doing a job, maybe for one game, even that I am not sure. At the back losing VVD will be a major blow, though defenders are usually less exposed to injury. This is why I think we should go for an attacker who can play in both Mane's and Firmino's place and if possible a defender. City has definitely a better squad from what we saw recently and to win the EPL, we cannot rely on the luck we have had so far, ie, Mahrez missing the penalty and Origi's goal against Everton. Without those we wouldn't be top. We don't need much but we need a little bit more.

But that is the same for any team. Look at City. Fernandinho was out and they missed him more than Aguero or De Bruyne. If you get injuries you have to adapt. We cannot compete on a level playing field because we can't pay £150k plus a week to squad players as well as the £50m fee to sign them.
As for the luck we have made more of our own good luck and missed out on more. The pen missed by Mahrez and the last minute goal v Everton are balanced out by Kompany not getting a red card and us having a perfectly good goal v Arsenal away chalked off.

You are right regarding Fernandinho and if you remember, Pep wanted Jorginho in the summer to provide cover. He made a mistake by buying Mahrez who was not that important, if he had gone for a DM like Toriera or even Fabinho, City would be less vulnerable. Maybe he will bring a cover for Fernandinho, who knows? We have to look at our weaknesses.

And who has a squad to truly compete in both this EPL and ECL? Only Utd have done that double from this country for god knows how long.

Also, some would say we have the luck of champions this tear. How many titles have Utd won while also riding their luck?

With Clyne and Solanke gone, and rumours of Origi going too, we definitely look light. I know none of those players really played, but it was good knowing we had them there if needed.
IMO we need striker that can also play left wing (cover for Firmino and Mane) and possibly someone that can cover both full back positions.
I’d also let Matip go and get someone less injury prone to compete with Gomez

Clyne. Ings. Solanke.
None of these players played last year. Or this year. Why would they need replacing?
No one expected Trent to come through so quick. So maybe we have someone who can do the same and be his understudy.
TAA Gomez milner and fabinho can all play RB. Even Robbo played RB for Scotland.
Solankes place on the bench or in the stands is gonna be filled by Sturridge or Origi. Brewster will be back soon also.

Solanke and Ings did play a few games last year, Ings played for Salah when the latter was injured.
