The problem with anfield whatever you do it, it is in the wrong location and restricted it is still surrounded by houses with third rate transport links sooner or later that will hold the club back. Everton are not redeveloping goodison are they ? Yet goodison is in the same location. I can't believe the location is not the reason the Everton board are moving and looking to the long term. If I am wrong then so are the boards of directors of almost all our rivals if not all

Why can't Anfield be redeveloped into a World Class stadium?

If the transport links are poor then the City Council should invest in transport infrastructure.

Buy the surrounding houses over time and create the space for development and re-generation.

If the city council can lend Everton £280m for their stadium then they should also be able to work with LFC to produce a win-win solution at Anfield for the club and the city.

The council has 280m to lend to a football club? Wow, how can they afford that kind of money?

Moving to shiny new state of the art venues can destroy more than meets the eye.

West Ham fans have been sold a dud in the form of the Olympic stadium. Many fans have found that it just doesn't have the same feel and life as their old stadium.

Arsenal have also lost part of their identity.

And here's a similar example from a totally different industry:

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/could-another-liverpool-market-become-15592070.

One particularly relevant statement referring to another market: 'That revamp has been hit with criticisms by traders and shoppers, who described it as 'empty' and 'soulless.'

all these talk of the fans not liking the new ground is just resistance to change it will never be mentioned in 20 years time as new generations come through. A stadium is for the long term future. FSG are not even willing to redevelop anfield the anfield road end is taking an eternity. Liverpool infrastructure is being developed now anfield is being regenerated now. If in 20 years Liverpool get new owners who want to develop anfield why on earth would the council build infrastructure just for the club. The plans on Stanley park were I recall to build new roads and a dedicated railway terminal paid for by the Liverpool city as part of the regeneration of anfield. That ship has now sailed. Now for the long term we are boxed in.

Infrastructure is not just for the club - it's for the whole area and should benefit the whole City.

If the Anfield area is already being developed by the City without taking into account the needs of the club, and if as a result we are being boxed in and our options being reduced, then yes... that is concerning.

Councils don't, but they can get get Government development grants etc to invest/rejuvinate in an area, we used to get EU grants for this sort of thing also, but that will be stopping soon I guess.....
