What short term payback are FSG after exactly? Everything goes ack into the club one way or another and they’ve been here for something like 8 years. Hardly seem short term to me. They’re also not wasting money on an unnecessary new stadium and instead trying to do what football is all about, winning things. They might have been here 8 years but are not long term investing everything is short term payback which is great business sense but I an more concerned about the long term future of the club than henrys estate wealth They seem to care about results on the pitch. Is that not what football is about? I assume you'd be happy with more years of buying Diouf's and Diao's and not competing let alone winning as long as you're sat in a new stadium? It means nothing to our long term future and remind us all again, who has won anything significant with a new stadium other than City?

You guys seem to think it's a choice between being successful on the pitch or having a good stadium is it not possible to do both ? And should we not aim to do both. Vish gives the example of Newcastle but I notice chooses to ignore spurs. And if Arsenal start to get back to winning ways (perfectly possible) they will be light years better off than had they stayed at Highbury

You've still not answered who has been significantly successful after getting a new stadium?

You've still not answered who has been significantly successful after getting a new stadium? All the very top clubs have big or modern stadia or both real, Barcelona Bayern in the uk all our rivals have them or are planning to in the near future. Perhaps with the exception now of Chelsea but that's to do with the domicile status of their owner who is miffed with the uk government. Manchester United's expansion of their stadium to 76k was one of the reasons for their success over Liverpool last 30 years one of the reasons before you mention Ferguson. If I am totally wrong and not having a top stadium is the secret to future success then Liverpool are going to clean up next 30 years let's hope I am wrong

Manure expanded. Barca and Real have historical stadiums. So who in this country with a new stadium has done anything significant?

None that I can think of other than Man City who have not done too bad does this mean the boards of Arsenal Spurs Everton man united don't know what they are doing ? You know something they don't ? You are right though simply building a new stadium and doing nothing else won't bring success. But no one is suggesting that or attempting that a successful club plans over the long term to do everything right. Your strategy would probably suit me personally I have a great seat at anfield if we spend the money over the next decade on the team and let the club long term fall behind that's suits me down to the ground. However I am not thinking solely of my situation what about the six year old who starts to support Liverpool now ?

We are victims of our own success. Anfield has too much value in it for us to ignore. It's iconic. f at all there is the possibility of gradually improving the facilities and capacity at Anfield then we should take that route.
Look at waht happened to Wembley after they got rid of the twin towers. It's lost it's charm to the extent that people ar saying that we should sell it to a US businessman.
'I was only in the game for the love of football - and I wanted to bring back happiness to the people of Liverpool.' Bill Shankly
'We should have made a signing or two in the last couple of transfer windows.' Vish

So no one other than by far the richest club in the country, maybe the world(?) who has a new stadium, has won anything of note? Is that right?
Spurs' stadium will be great when they get to use it but they didn't strengthen in the summer for some reason(?) and is massively over budget. Lets see how they get on if they can play there in among the NFL games.
Everton's stadium isn't going to be as big as Anfield and regardless of where it is, they'll still be Everton.
And why bring up Utd again? They developed their stadium therefore proves what you don't think will work can work.
As for me knowing something that they don't, no I don't and what a stupid thing to suggest. What I do know is that you've said in this thread that a new stadium doesn't guarantee success yet you still want one when we're just starting to look like we can be successful? Not sure why you'd want to sacrifice our (possible) success for something that doesn't guarantee success (your words).
A new stadium would be lovely. I don't deny that and would look lovely with the Champions League logo in the middle and the music ringing out. But we as a club are on a really good footing. We have one of the biggest stadiums in the country with a massive worldwide fanbase and could be on the cusp of something great. The only thing that matters is success on the pitch and when/if we get some it'll help with the long term future of the club regardless of the stadium.

If we redevelop anfield and are winning titles and champions leagues I will be delighted. But why does that mean we can't have a world class stadium as well ? Why is it a choice ?
The problem with anfield whatever you do it, it is in the wrong location and restricted it is still surrounded by houses with third rate transport links sooner or later that will hold the club back. Everton are not redeveloping goodison are they ? Yet goodison is in the same location. I can't believe the location is not the reason the Everton board are moving and looking to the long term. If I am wrong then so are the boards of directors of almost all our rivals if not all

Arsenal couldn't invest in players for years, now Spurs who bought nobody in the last window. Spurs and Everton (maybe) have to build a new stadium because they have limited capacity and probably cannot redevelop to reach 60k, which other rival is building a new stadium?
